Chapter 90: At Last, Our Hardships Will Come to an End
“Hahaha, talk about karma!”
“These people really got what they deserved. Now look at them, completely done for!”
“To lose such a valuable betrothal gift—Su’s family must be bleeding inside.”
After the old master left, Su Weimin broke into hearty laughter, his delight radiating from head to toe, his face a picture of unrestrained joy.
Standing beside him, Gao Yulan was so thrilled that she danced with excitement, exclaiming, “Serves them right for flaunting in front of us all this time. Now, who’s laughing at the end? This is just too satisfying!”
The couple’s faces glowed with exhilaration; they were nearly beside themselves with excitement.
Su Rulan, too, wore a broad smile. To say she wasn’t satisfied by this turn of events would have been a lie, but she was certain the betrothal gift hadn’t simply vanished—it must have been Ye Tianlin’s doing.
Yet, in front of the couple, Su Rulan refrained from asking, for fear of causing any misunderstanding.
Only when they went out to fetch a meal did Su Rulan, her curiosity piqued, finally ask, “Tianlin, where did you put the betrothal gift?”
“I’ll take you to see it in person after you’re discharged from the hospital. Then you’ll understand. Consider it a renewed surprise, courtesy of this betrothal gift,” Ye Tianlin replied, sitting by her bedside and patting her hand, deliberately keeping her in suspense.
Su Rulan was left hanging, but seeing how seriously Ye Tianlin was preparing this surprise, she decided not to probe further. Instead, her face lit up with anticipation. “When Grandpa returns to the Su family villa after being discharged, will he be in for a shock?”
“Without a doubt. They never know when to stop, so it’s only right to teach them a lesson and let you vent your anger. Let’s see if they’re still in the mood for that ridiculous eightieth birthday celebration!” Ye Tianlin’s words were resolute.
Su Rulan exclaimed with delight, “This is honestly so satisfying. I’ve never seen them so flustered before!”
Ye Tianlin smiled, “There’s something even more satisfying that I haven’t told you yet.”
“What is it?” Su Rulan’s curiosity grew.
Seeing this, Ye Tianlin recounted everything that had happened at the Tiandu Chamber of Commerce.
Yet upon hearing it, Su Rulan didn’t look happy at all. Instead, her whole body tensed, disbelief etched on her face.
“Tianlin, how could you involve the Capital Consortium to deal with the Matriarch? This… this is an act of treason. And you even want her to come to the hospital and apologize to me? As her granddaughter-in-law, how could I possibly accept that?” Su Rulan said anxiously.
Ye Tianlin gave a wry smile. “Rulan, how can you still be thinking of others at a time like this? After all that Grandmother has done to you, isn’t it only right that she apologizes? How can she keep hiding behind her seniority to act so high and mighty?”
“Grandmother and your mother have always been prejudiced against me. After all this trouble, they’ll probably resent me even more. I’m just the younger generation—what’s a little grievance to me?” Su Rulan nervously clenched her hands.
Seeing this, Ye Tianlin’s heart ached for her.
Su Rulan was always like this—never thinking of herself, always willing to suffer for the sake of others.
But before Ye Tianlin could say anything, Su Rulan continued, “I never expected the Capital Consortium to intervene like this. It’s not good for you, Tianlin. If you really anger the Matriarch and get expelled from the Ye family, what will you do then?”
“No matter what, this works in our favor. With the Capital Consortium keeping the Ye family in check, Grandmother won’t dare trouble you anymore. So don’t overthink it—just rest and recover in the hospital,” Ye Tianlin hesitated for a few seconds, ultimately holding back the full truth so Su Rulan wouldn’t worry.
Su Rulan bit her lip, about to continue persuading him, but just then Su Weimin and Gao Yulan returned with their meal, so she had to drop the subject for now.
Meanwhile,
The old master of the Su family hastily completed his discharge and rushed straight to the Su family villa.
Stepping inside, he was confronted by utter chaos. The sight left his legs weak, and he collapsed to his knees, clutching his cane, weeping in anguish. “What on earth happened here? Who could have done such a wicked thing?”
Su Yixue and Su Yicai stood frozen in shock.
“It’s gone, it’s gone. You’re too old to cry over it,” Uncle Su Zhengjun hurried to help him up. Even a fool could guess who was behind this. To him, it was only right that the gifts returned to their rightful owner—what a relief it was to be rid of them.
“With such a huge loss, even the whole house smashed to pieces, how could I not cry? Su Zhengjun, don’t you feel any pain?” The old master sobbed, a pitiful sight indeed.
“My betrothal gifts, my gold jewelry, all gone!” Su Yixue, snapping back to her senses, collapsed to the floor, wailing in despair.
“Looks like this eightieth birthday won’t be a happy one,” Su Yicai muttered, his face ashen, eyes full of bitterness, cursing inwardly again and again.
Just as the Su family villa was engulfed in sobs and chaos, a luxury car suddenly pulled up outside.
The old master turned to look, only to see the car door open and the Matriarch herself, along with Jiang Yingxia, stepping out together!
“The Matriarch?!” The old master’s eyes bulged in disbelief.
“And the Mistress—my future mother-in-law!” Su Yixue was equally stunned.
Su Yicai was momentarily taken aback, then threw his head back in delighted laughter, exclaiming, “The Matriarch and Mistress are visiting in person—this must mean they’re here to resolve everything. I knew my stay in the hospital wasn’t in vain after all. Our hardships are finally coming to an end!”
