Chapter Three: I Am the Young Master
One billion!
Hearing this astronomical figure, Su Rulan was left utterly stunned.
Even Su Weimin and Gao Yulan couldn’t help but look up, their gazes gathering on the bank card lying on the table, their faces filled with disbelief.
The bank card was jet black, with golden patterns swirling around its four corners.
“What a joke. I’ve never even seen a card like this. You probably picked it up from who knows where,” Gao Yulan sneered after examining it for a few moments, shaking her head repeatedly, secretly cursing Ye Tianlin for being hopelessly deluded.
Furious, Su Weimin got up from his seat by the wall, strode over, and snapped the card in two before tossing it straight into the trash bin. He cursed, “Utterly hopeless! If this card really had a billion in it, wouldn’t that make me a billionaire?”
Ye Tianlin quickly bent down, retrieved the broken bank card from the bin, and said with determined conviction, “I’m telling the absolute truth. I really am the young master of the Ye family.”
“Tianlin, please, I beg you, stop this. I’m so tired, so worn out.” Su Rulan, having come back to her senses, saw no possibility in his words. After all, she knew Ye Tianlin’s illness better than anyone—every time he relapsed, he would act out in the most absurd ways.
Seeing her reaction, Ye Tianlin realized that, given his current state, nothing he said would be believed. Only tangible actions could earn their trust.
Not wishing to agitate Su Rulan further, Ye Tianlin refrained from insisting, and simply sat quietly by the bed, waiting for his transfusion to finish.
It wasn’t until the afternoon, after completing the discharge procedures, that they returned to the apartment building.
Ever since their marriage, the family had been driven out of the villa by Old Master Su and forced to eke out a living, renting a cramped apartment in a building with poor conditions.
When they stepped inside, they saw piles of their belongings stacked at the entrance, everything cleared out.
Landlady Sister Wang stood there, her face full of disdain. She blocked their way with an outstretched arm and snapped, “What bad luck, someone trying to kill themselves in my place! Who would want to live here after that? Pack up and get out!”
This sudden blow was the final straw for a family already struggling to survive.
Su Rulan, caught off guard, her face ashen, pleaded, “Sister Wang, if you throw us out so suddenly, where are we supposed to sleep tonight?”
“Don’t look at me with that dead face of yours, or I’ll have nightmares. I don’t care where you sleep, just not here.” Sister Wang’s eyes were filled with revulsion.
Su Weimin pleaded, “Landlady, we’ve lived here for years, can’t you show us a little kindness…”
But before he could finish, Sister Wang cut him off, grabbing a broom by the door and threatening fiercely, “Kindness? If you don’t move out today, don’t blame me for throwing you out myself!”
Ye Tianlin stepped in front and said, “We’ll move. This place isn’t fit for people to live in anyway.”
Su Weimin and Gao Yulan were nearly apoplectic with rage, cursing Ye Tianlin in their hearts for his lack of sense.
But with the landlady’s unyielding attitude, they had no choice but to gather their belongings in humiliation, shouldering bags and bundles as they left the apartment building.
Night was falling, and they hadn’t yet managed to scrape together the two hundred thousand yuan fine. They couldn’t bear to spend money on a hotel, so at Su Weimin’s suggestion, they headed to the Su family villa, hoping Old Master Su would show some mercy.
Arriving at the villa, they saw the lights blazing inside—clearly, everyone was present.
Su Rulan pressed the doorbell. Her uncle, Su Zhengjun, soon appeared, but seeing their plight, he showed no intention of letting them in, instead asking with feigned ignorance, “What brings you here?”
Gritting her teeth, Su Rulan forced herself to speak, “Uncle, we’ve been thrown out. Could you let us stay for a few days? We’ll leave as soon as we find a new place.”
Uncle Su Zhengjun crossed his arms and struck a pose. “Ah, I’m really sorry. Your old rooms are now storage spaces—there’s simply no room. Besides, the old master has made it clear that you’re not allowed to stay here.”
“We’re still part of the Su family. No matter what, we have a share in this villa. How can you turn us away?” Su Rulan protested desperately.
Su Zhengjun shrugged. “Who says you’re part of the Su family, or that you have a share in the villa? The old master made his will a few days ago. From now on, all the family property goes to me and Yicai!”
“What?” Su Weimin was incredulous.
“He made his will already? The old master is too biased!” Gao Yulan stomped her foot in anger. Though the Su family had fallen on hard times, there was still some property left, and for it all to go to the uncle and his son was intolerably unfair.
Just then, Old Master Su emerged from the villa hall, supported by Su Yicai.
“What are you doing here with all that baggage?” Old Master Su’s face was full of annoyance.
Su Zhengjun quickly explained, “Father, they got thrown out by their landlady and want to stay here. I just mentioned the will, and now they’re upset.”
Su Yicai sneered, “Su Rulan, you’ve made grandfather lose all face and cost the Su family its chance to turn things around. Of course you get no share of the inheritance.”
Su Rulan struggled to compose herself, pleading, “Grandfather, the will is your business, no one can interfere. But please, just let us stay for a few days. That’s all I ask.”
“We’ll see when I’m in a better mood!” Old Master Su didn’t even look at them. Turning away, he led his son and grandson back inside, leaving the family out in the cold, the door slammed in their faces.
“Grandfather, please!” Su Rulan fell to her knees, her voice raw with anguish.
But no matter how she cried out, Old Master Su never returned, nor did he respond.
Su Weimin and Gao Yulan both dropped to their knees as well, their faces etched with despair, tears streaming down their cheeks as they sobbed quietly.
Ye Tianlin’s heart ached as if pierced by a knife. He gently helped Su Rulan to her feet and said, “Rulan, a grandfather like this isn’t worth clinging to. I’ll take you all to the Tiandu Chamber of Commerce!”
“At a time like this, you’re still talking nonsense. I wish you were dead,” Su Weimin sobbed and cursed.
“It’s all your fault. Otherwise, our family wouldn’t be in this mess,” Gao Yulan complained bitterly.
Ye Tianlin drew a deep breath. “Dad, Mom, I know you’ve suffered because of me all these years. But I swear I’m not lying this time. Just trust me, come with me, and all will become clear!”
