Chapter 95: The Fall of Master Zhong
Then die with me too!
At that moment, the man with the braided pigtail suddenly swelled in size. With a chorus of cracking and tearing sounds from bone and flesh, he grew into a giant more than fifteen feet tall.
Like a speeding truck, he crashed toward Chen Yuyi.
Chen Yuyi narrowed his eyes slightly and raised a hand, sending out a blade of vital energy.
One of the pigtail man’s enormous arms flew off at once, trailing a splash of black blood.
Yet his face showed no pain at all. Without slowing in the slightest, he kept charging at Chen Yuyi.
Chen Yuyi sent out another blade of vital energy, severing one of his legs and only then making him falter for a moment.
With a ferocious expression, and amid a crackling of bone and flesh, the man’s arm and leg grew back at astonishing speed.
He was attacking Chen Yuyi entirely with the strength of his body, without the least trace of magical power, so even if Chen Yuyi brought out the Great Luo Star Disk now, it would be useless.
But he still had the White Emperor Golden Severance.
At once, he bent his body and became a streak of white-gold light, piercing straight through the pigtail man’s giant form.
In no time at all, the pigtail man’s body began to split apart.
At that moment, Daoist Master Zhong stood atop a pillar, his salt-and-pepper hair whipping about him as he spat a beam of red light onto the pigtail man’s shattered body.
Suddenly, the fragments of that body began to writhe, and then to reassemble themselves on their own.
Very soon, a complete body was formed again, and its size had swelled even further.
Chen Yuyi raised a brow and glanced toward Daoist Master Zhong, who stood upon the pillar.
Then he lifted a hand, and the Great Luo Star Disk turned into a streak of white light, shooting toward Daoist Master Zhong.
By then, the pigtail man’s body had already finished reassembling. With a roar, he hurled himself at Chen Yuyi like a cannonball.
Chen Yuyi answered with another White Emperor Golden Severance, cutting him to pieces once more.
The Great Luo Star Disk also flew to the top of Daoist Master Zhong’s head.
It spun wildly overhead, yet it could draw out not the slightest trace of magical power from him. Chen Yuyi could not help but find that strange.
Meanwhile, the pigtail man’s body was reassembling again, and it seemed that each time he reformed, he grew a little stronger, his body a little larger. He was simply impossible to kill and impossible to break.
Chen Yuyi had never encountered such relentless, maddening persistence before, and his brows rose as well. Could it be that Daoist Master Zhong was not using magical power at all?
“Boy, you will never know what kind of being you are facing!” Daoist Master Zhong laughed heartily, utterly unconcerned by the disk above his head.
“And do you know what kind of being you are facing?” Chen Yuyi’s gaze turned colder and colder.
Since the Great Luo Star Disk was useless against Daoist Master Zhong, then he would simply rely on his own power to settle this. It was just the right chance to test the might of those minor divine arts.
With the Great Luo Star Disk’s help, his spiritual power had become extremely refined, and he was now fully capable of unleashing them.
Facing the pigtail man, whose body had grown even larger as he charged at him once more, Chen Yuyi cried softly, “Lightning, come!”
In an instant, electricity sprang from the void, and thunder burst apart.
A heaven-shaking bolt of lightning was born from Chen Yuyi’s hand.
He gripped the lightning as though he were a god descended from the heavens. His eyes, too, radiated the majesty of thunder as he raised that bolt and smashed it down upon the pigtail man’s colossal body.
Boom!
Blinding lightning flared as though it would split the sky itself.
Struck by that bolt, the pigtail man’s enormous body shrank at once, like a punctured skin bag.
Chen Yuyi sent out thunder once more.
At last, the pigtail man’s body was reduced to a lump of charred ruin and could no longer reassemble itself.
Daoist Master Zhong’s beard and hair flew wildly about him.
“You are a heavenly master?”
Chen Yuyi snorted.
“A heavenly master?”
“Only the thunder arts of the Heavenly Master lineage could possess such power!”
“Then are you afraid yet?” Chen Yuyi could not be bothered to argue over such things. Even if he were called a heavenly master, it would hardly be wrong. Besides, this was only a minor divine art; who knew how much greater the power of the true major arts would be in the future.
“Afraid? Why should I be afraid?” Daoist Master Zhong laughed. “To possess such methods, why not become my true eldest disciple?”
“Was that man just now not your eldest disciple?” Chen Yuyi asked, faintly curious. What kind of person, exactly, was this Daoist Master Zhong?
“With those mortals? They are not fit to be my disciples. I merely take them on in name so that no one can discover my true strength. As for you, when you first saw my eldest disciple, did you think that if even the disciple was like that, the master could only be so-so?”
Chen Yuyi paused slightly. That was indeed how it had seemed. Could it be that this Daoist Master Zhong truly possessed some heaven-reaching ability?
“Now is still not too late to change your mind. Become my eldest disciple, and you will enjoy endless benefits. What do you say?”
Chen Yuyi gave a cold smile.
“And do you have that ability?”
“Hahaha. Very well, then I shall show you my true strength right now!”
As Daoist Master Zhong spoke, his body suddenly began to split open.
Chen Yuyi stared, unable to make sense of what game he was playing.
“Merely a stinking shell. Let me show you my true form!”
As Daoist Master Zhong’s body split apart, a head with a single horn emerged, followed by waves of rank, fishy wind that was enough to make one retch.
Then a serpent-like body burst upward from where Daoist Master Zhong had stood.
Soaring into the air, that body quickly transformed into a massive python that coiled in the sky.
Chen Yuyi was startled. Daoist Master Zhong was not human at all, but a monster!
“Hahaha, boy, do you understand now what kind of being I am?” said Daoist Master Zhong, now transformed into a giant python. Its black, sinister tongue flicked in and out as it looked down from above at the diminutive Chen Yuyi.
Chen Yuyi’s expression shifted. This truly was far beyond his expectations.
No wonder the Great Luo Star Disk had had no effect on him. So he had been a monster all along.
“You only know a little thunder art,” the giant python said. “Then let me show you what true thunderous might is!”
With that, Daoist Master Zhong, now a giant python, suddenly opened its bloody maw and spat out countless bolts of lightning, all of them shooting toward Chen Yuyi at incredible speed.
Chen Yuyi retreated two steps with some gravity. He indeed was not yet certain he could withstand all of that lightning.
Then, suddenly, the voice of the Flood Dragon King sounded inside him, excited and eager.
“Chen Yuyi, my food has appeared! Hahaha, this is a Blackwater Profound Serpent. I never expected to find one in this world! What perfect fortune. Let me have my fill at once! I’ll swallow it in a single bite!”
The Flood Dragon King could no longer wait. It flew out from Chen Yuyi’s body in an instant, its form swelling violently as well. It became more than ten times larger than the python that Daoist Master Zhong had turned into.
The incoming lightning was blocked by it; it struck the Flood Dragon King’s body, but only a few sparks flew before it vanished without a trace.
Then, baring a huge mouth in triumph, the Flood Dragon King rushed straight at the giant python.
The python’s lantern-like eyes filled at once with deep terror.
“How is this possible? How can there still be a flood dragon in this world...”
But its voice could only echo within the Flood Dragon King’s belly. Then all became quiet.
Even with Chen Yuyi’s normally composed temperament, he could not help but stare in stunned silence. So this was the true Flood Dragon King.
After swallowing the python that had once been Daoist Master Zhong, the Flood Dragon King still seemed a little unsatisfied.
“If only a few more such demonic beasts came along, my power would recover in no time!”
“Demonic beasts?”
“Such creatures are nothing much in the cultivation world. They would not stir much of a storm. But in this world, they do count as something formidable. Ordinary people would have no way to deal with them. Still, when they meet you and me, that is a different matter altogether!”
The Flood Dragon King laughed smugly. Then it coughed twice and spat out a blood-red stone the size of an ordinary man’s fist, faintly glowing with a dark light.
“What is this?” Chen Yuyi asked.
“That is the inner core crystal of that Blackwater Profound Serpent. It is the source of its power!”
“Will it be useful to me?”
“Of course it will. Things like this are essential for refining treasures and upgrading treasures. In the future, it can also help you refine divine arts!”
Hearing that, Chen Yuyi hurriedly put it away.
“All right, I’ve eaten my fill and need to digest it. As for how to get out of here, you’ll have to figure that out yourself. Still, I can remind you of one thing: the Great Luo Star Disk is definitely the best guiding light!”
With that, the Flood Dragon King fell silent once more inside Chen Yuyi’s body.
Chen Yuyi looked out over the vast expanse of the river. By now, the mist over the water had already thinned considerably.
What he needed to do now was take everyone away from here and return to River City.
Since even the Flood Dragon King had said as much, he did not hesitate. He summoned the Great Luo Star Disk at once, letting it hover above the ship while he circulated his power and guided the vessel toward River City.
As for those who had become walking corpses, with Daoist Master Zhong’s destruction, they had all become true corpses at last.
Chen Yuyi also clasped his hands behind his back and returned to Shen Youlin and the others.
