Chapter 107: Starting Work at My Wife’s Company
“This Dream Charm must have someone assisting; otherwise, with just those few young girls, success would be nearly impossible.”
Wei Jiadong curled the corner of his mouth into a smirk. He spoke with such certainty because he had previously sneaked into the research lab and used some special means to keep the project stalled. This was a crucial bargaining chip in his hands. If Shen Zhuyun complied with his wishes, he would put on a show before her and help solve the problem; if not, he would keep dangling the issue.
“I heard they hired a professor.”
“A professor? That won’t be enough to solve it. Even if the problem were temporarily fixed, the perfume wouldn’t be ready for market—it would likely become a substandard product,” Wei Jiadong said confidently. What professor could match his methods?
“That professor didn’t solve it, indeed, but I heard there’s another person involved. The success of Dream Charm rests entirely on that individual’s efforts. How exactly they resolved it, the company hasn’t disclosed. But I’ve smelled the scent—it’s truly extraordinary. Maybe, just maybe, our company can turn things around with this product.”
“Hmph.” Wei Jiadong sneered. “Without me as Sales Director, do you think they can sell anything? Even if they put their all into it, it’s all in vain.”
“I’m loyal to Brother Dong now. Whatever Brother Dong says, I do. Without him, sales would be the biggest problem, and as Marketing Director, I’d be powerless,” Yu Fangling said, nestling close like a delicate bird.
Wei Jiadong exhaled a plume of smoke.
“I’ll cut off every sales channel the company has. Let’s see how Shen Zhuyun deals with that. She’ll be begging me, mark my words!”
A gleam of pride flickered in Wei Jiadong’s eyes. His ambition in securing the Sales Director position had been plotted for some time.
“Also, could that troublemaker be that kid?” Suddenly, he thought of Chen Yuyi, suspecting it might be him.
A playful smirk curved his lips. “Just a useless nobody. How could he compare to the great demon king? Even if he solved the product problem, besides me, no one can save this company!”
He had already heard Tan Lang’s report about that person and had long since dismissed him. At this moment, that fellow was probably lying cold on the street. Feeling pleased, he chuckled twice and buried his head once more into Yu Fangling’s ample bosom.
When Chen Yuyi returned home, it was already late. He had gone to help Bai Lang purge the true energy from his body. Now that Bai Lang’s internal energy was completely cleansed, there was no longer any risk of bursting his heart.
Bai Lang then treated him to dinner, and they ended up chatting late into the night.
When he came back, Shen Zhuyun was waiting for him.
“Something on your mind?” Chen Yuyi smiled faintly.
Shen Zhuyun glanced at him quietly. “Come work at the company tomorrow.”
“Oh? Why the sudden invitation to work there?” Chen Yuyi rubbed his nose, smiling.
“Since you’ve already intervened in my company’s affairs, you need to take responsibility. Besides, you hold the pills that improve our perfume. You should stay at the company.”
“All right, but what position do you plan to give me?”
“Ordinary employee.”
Chen Yuyi was stunned. “I hold the key to your company’s product, yet you want me to be an ordinary employee?”
“What, do you expect me to hand over the CEO position to you?”
Chen Yuyi paused again, shook his head, and laughed. “That seat is still yours. Can’t I at least be a director or a manager?”
“If you have the ability, you can climb up gradually. Our company’s rules encourage capable people. I hope you’ll show everyone your skills!” Shen Zhuyun said wearily and then ignored him.
“Don’t you have anything more to say? Like how I should address you at the company or how you’ll call me?”
“We have a CEO-employee relationship. Figure it out yourself.”
Shen Zhuyun lay down to sleep. After last night’s commotion, she was truly sleep-deprived.
Seeing the bed already taken, Chen Yuyi shook his head helplessly. Looks like he’d have to sleep on the floor from now on. He mentally slapped himself—why had he been so soft-hearted last night to give up the bed?
The next day, before arriving at the company, Shen Zhuyun stopped the car some distance away.
“Why park here?” Chen Yuyi suspected her intentions but asked anyway.
“From now on, you get off here and walk to the office yourself. Or find your own ride. Oh, you don’t even have a driver’s license now, so you could hitch a ride. Your choice.”
Chen Yuyi sighed. “Nothing beats a ride from the wife. I’ll get off here.”
As he stepped out, he suddenly climbed back in. “What about after work?”
Shen Zhuyun glanced at him. “Handle it yourself after work.”
Chen Yuyi sighed again, shaking his head. “Married and still have to do everything on my own. How sad!”
Shen Zhuyun twitched her lips but said nothing.
Watching Chen Yuyi walk away, she looked on with a complicated expression before restarting the car.
Shen Zhuyun had already reached the CEO’s office by the time Chen Yuyi slowly arrived downstairs.
Entering the company, the receptionist girl eyed him with some resentment—clearly, she had been scolded yesterday.
Chen Yuyi had almost walked past her but turned back. “Why didn’t you stop me today?”
The girl bit her lip. “The CEO’s secretary told me you’re a company employee now.”
“Oh, so they’ve notified you already.”
Chen Yuyi suddenly put on a stern face, imitating Shen Zhuyun’s sharp demeanor. “Remember, no nail grooming during work hours, and be polite to visitors!”
Then he strode inside.
Behind him, the girl glared fiercely and even gave him the middle finger, muttering, “Just the CEO’s cousin, acting like the CEO’s husband!”
She was about to pick up her nail clipper to finish yesterday’s unfinished business when a flash of white light appeared. The clipper instantly corroded like tofu, leaving her dumbfounded.
“What the hell?!” she almost screamed.
Just then, Shi Qingqing greeted Chen Yuyi with a smile inside the company.
“Mr. Chen, the CEO asked me to arrange your position. The marketing department is short-staffed. Please follow me.”
With Shi Qingqing leading, Chen Yuyi entered the marketing department. The department was divided into Market and Sales sections. Wei Jiadong was the sole Sales Director, responsible for sales, while administrative duties were handled by another person.
The atmosphere in Marketing was tense; everyone kept their heads down, indifferent to the newcomer.
“Minister Yu, the CEO sent a new employee with me,” Shi Qingqing said to a mature, beautiful woman seated in a chair.
The woman finally stood.
“Hello, I’m Yu Fangling, head of the marketing department. Welcome to our team!”
It was Yu Fangling. She extended her hand to greet Chen Yuyi.
Chen Yuyi noticed she had been playing games on her office computer before turning her attention to him.
Everyone here seemed similarly disengaged. It was clear Shen Zhuyun’s company was facing serious issues.
“Hello,” Chen Yuyi replied coolly, offering a polite handshake.
Yu Fangling looked at him in surprise.
This young newcomer was so composed before his superior, not uttering a word of courtesy.
She wondered if he planned to coast through the job or was just taciturn. Regardless, even if he was personally placed by the CEO, it didn’t matter. She’d just assign him some busywork.
After Shi Qingqing gave instructions, she went about her own business.
Yu Fangling smiled faintly. “Just pick any seat. The marketing department’s pretty idle now. You can play games or do whatever to pass the time.”
Then she ignored Chen Yuyi, returning to her game.
Chen Yuyi said nothing. He found a seat, turned on his computer, and started a game—it was better than doing nothing.
Near noon, Lei Lei from R&D suddenly appeared in marketing.
She walked straight to Yu Fangling’s desk and slammed it...
