Chapter 90: My Brother-in-Law Is Still Here, So I Am Not Leaving
At last, Miss Zhao has arrived.
Pan Fang, seeing Zhao Lan appear, was roused at once. After all, Zhao Lan was a member of the Zhao family of Upper Capital, and she also knew that the old man surnamed He who always accompanied Zhao Lan was no simple figure. In order to show Zhao Lan’s status, she immediately began addressing her as “Miss.”
Zhao Lan was, after all, a woman of some breadth and experience. In such a situation, she remained composed and walked straight up to the Daoist known as Demonic Blade.
“You must be Master Demonic Blade,” she said.
With a glass of whiskey still in hand, Demonic Blade replied indifferently, “These people were brought here by you?”
“That’s right. I ask you, Master, to grant us the sake of the Zhao family of Upper Capital and release them. As for the harm done to the young Daoist, we are willing to offer proper compensation.”
“Compensation? And how do you intend to compensate?” Black Earth sneered.
Black Mountain paid no heed to their words, for he had already seen Chen Yuyi.
From the moment he saw Chen Yuyi enter, his gaze had turned icy. Although his martial-uncle Demonic Blade had explained everything to him clearly, that as long as the Seven Fiends Gourd remained aboard the True Immortal it would eventually return to his hands, he still harbored a deep resentment toward Chen Yuyi and wanted nothing more than to settle the matter at once.
Of course, from their earlier clash in the private auction hall, he also knew he lacked the ability to deal with this man, so for now he could only wait in silence.
At that moment Zhao Lan motioned to Old He. On the way here, she and Old He had already reached an understanding: first try paying some money and see how it went; if that did not work, let Old He reveal a bit of his skill; or perhaps use both methods together. It was hardly a declaration of force, but at least it would serve as a deterrent. Naturally, if money could solve the matter, that would be best of all.
“I wonder what sort of compensation the young Daoist desires,” Old He said. “As long as it is within our power, we will surely satisfy you.”
As he spoke, the hems of his clothes lifted without any wind, and a whirlpool-like current formed around him.
Black Earth was startled. He had assumed these people were nothing more than ordinary folk, never expecting one of them to be a master of martial arts. Though he and Black Mountain were both disciples of Demonic Blade, they had learned very little of substance. In daily life they relied entirely on the backing of their martial-uncle Demonic Blade to run roughshod over others, especially with regard to lust and womanizing.
So now, upon encountering a true expert, he could not help edging closer to his martial-uncle. “Martial-uncle, they’re threatening me. You mustn’t let them off!”
He added the words with malicious delight, as if eager for chaos.
Demonic Blade lifted one finger and pointed at Old He, saying coldly, “In my presence, you still dare act so insolently!”
Suddenly Old He felt the force within him fail to rise. Alarmed, he hurriedly released his breath and stumbled back several steps, staring at Demonic Blade in shock.
Then he secretly examined his own body to see whether he had suffered any injury.
Demonic Blade’s gesture did not use inner force, but magical power. If Old He had stubbornly endured that single stroke, he might very well have been crippled for life.
At the thought of how terrifying this Demonic Blade was, cold sweat poured down Old He’s back.
Seeing this, Zhao Lan also grew somewhat flustered. She could not help but blame herself for having been too overconfident. She had thought Old He was already one of the rare masters in the world, so she had some confidence in hand, but she never imagined that the so-called Master Demonic Blade could make Old He retreat merely by extending one finger. What a frightening man he was.
Even her voice unconsciously lowered. “Please state your terms, Master. As long as you let my companions go, anything can be discussed.”
Her words moved Pan Fang and the others deeply; they almost began to regard Zhao Lan as their savior.
At that moment Liang Bingyan also stepped forward. She had always been a straightforward and loyal sort of person, and her family background was respectable enough; of course she could not simply stand by and ignore her companions.
“I’m willing to compensate you together with Miss Zhao as well!”
The young men lying on the ground slowly struggled to their feet. Seeing Zhao Lan and Liang Bingyan, they were almost so moved that they wanted to cling to their legs and cry aloud.
Black Earth’s lustful eyes rolled incessantly over Liang Bingyan and Zhao Lan.
Compared with Pan Fang, these two young ladies were unquestionably superior in both appearance and bearing, and he immediately began to scheme.
“Martial-uncle, letting those people go is fine. Just let these two girls keep me company,” he said with a lewd grin, pointing at Zhao Lan and Liang Bingyan.
Zhao Lan and Liang Bingyan were both startled. This was utterly beyond what they had expected.
Neither had imagined that this shameless Daoist would take a liking to them. Zhao Lan even began to regret her decision. If only she had ignored those companions. The trouble had been of their own making; if it were only a matter of paying money, that would have been one thing, but now it was plain that she herself was about to be offered up as part of the payment. The thought made her regret everything.
Liang Bingyan also frowned. She had never imagined that the people aboard the True Immortal would be such trash. If she had known, there would have been no need to come at all. She had come to the True Immortal because she hoped to take a magical artifact home to awaken her father, and only for that reason had she come here. She had never expected the so-called Master to be so contemptible.
Master Demonic Blade glanced at Zhao Lan and Liang Bingyan and nodded. “Since my junior disciple says so, the two of you may stay. The rest may leave.”
In an instant, Zhao Lan and Shen Bingyan looked as though the life had drained from them. Even Old He was no match for Demonic Blade; what could they possibly do?
Pan Fang and the others were full of guilt, but they were even more helpless.
“What? Are Daoists this lecherous too?” a clear voice suddenly rang out.
It was Shen Youlin, who could not help but speak.
At once, all eyes turned to her.
She had not spoken without considering the situation. She had seen Chen Yuyi easily toy with that Daoist in the private auction hall, and now that Daoist was right here in the room, so she believed Chen Yuyi must surely have a way to deal with these people.
Of course, she also meant to deliberately stir up a little trouble for Chen Yuyi. She believed her brother-in-law would definitely let her take the lead, and that was precisely what she wanted, so she did not care about the consequences.
Zhao Lan and the others could only shake their heads and sigh inwardly. This Miss Shen was far too naive. Saying such a thing now—could she still hope to get away?
At that moment Black Mountain bent down and whispered something into Master Demonic Blade’s ear.
After hearing him, Demonic Blade glanced at Chen Yuyi, and a faint smile appeared at the corner of his mouth. He had been wondering what entertainment he could find aboard the True Immortal.
Then he suddenly pointed at Chen Yuyi and said, “You all may leave. This one stays.”
The others were somewhat puzzled. Of course, who would willingly linger here any longer? They simply could not understand why the son-in-law of the Shen family would be the one left behind while the rest were allowed to go.
Zhao Lan, however, immediately remembered what had happened earlier in the private auction hall and roughly guessed the reason. Her heart at once loosened in relief. Finally, she could escape. As for the Shen family’s son-in-law, she had already offended him before, so she could not be bothered to care what happened to him.
She first had Pan Fang and the others leave, then pulled Shen Youlin by the arm. “Youlin, come with me quickly.”
But Shen Youlin was unwilling. She still wanted to see how things would unfold. “My brother-in-law is still here. I’m not leaving!”
Zhao Lan was left speechless.
Then she looked at Liang Bingyan and saw that she had no intention of leaving either. Unable to help herself, she asked, “Liang Bingyan, why aren’t you leaving as well?”
“I misunderstood Mr. Chen earlier. To express my apology, I’m willing to stay with him and see what tricks this bunch can come up with,” Liang Bingyan said firmly. Her temperament had always been one that would rather bend than break; she was quite resilient.
Zhao Lan shook her head. Liang Bingyan was a fool too. Knowing full well that Master Demonic Blade was no good person, why would a young woman stay here and ask to suffer? Seeing that neither Shen Youlin nor Liang Bingyan would leave, she could not be bothered to care about them anymore and departed with Old He.
Before leaving, Old He gave Chen Yuyi a long, deep look.
Soon after, the burly men were also withdrawn.
The happiest of all was Black Earth. How could he dare disobey his martial-uncle’s words? Though somewhat displeased, he was delighted to see that two beauties still remained.
“How nice. I thought all the beauties would be gone. Who would have thought you’d leave behind one big and one small beauty yourselves—especially that little one, so tender!”
Black Earth clapped his hands, nearly drooling, staring at Shen Youlin without blinking. Earlier, Shen Youlin had been standing behind the others, so he had truly not noticed her. Otherwise he would have ordered this little beauty to remain long ago. But this was not bad either—she had stayed of her own accord.
Only Black Mountain remained cautious, staring at Chen Yuyi. “Brat, hand over my Seven Fiends Gourd!”
