Chapter 93: How Could It Be Possible?
Then the way she looked at Chen Yuyi changed again. A feverish light filled her eyes, and a foolish grin spread across her face. “My brother-in-law is that Mr. Chen! Hahaha! I actually treated treasure like trash. Hehe, this secret absolutely cannot be shared with anyone!”
Chen Yuyi nodded to Qi Yun. “Don’t worry. That Master Zhong can do nothing to me.”
Then he added, “Go gather the people from Jiangcheng. I’ll come over shortly.”
“Yes, Mr. Chen.” After hearing this, Qi Yun felt much more at ease.
“Also, hold out your hand.”
Qi Yun was a little puzzled, but she still extended her hand.
Chen Yuyi pointed to the wrist cuff on it and said, “This thing is a wicked object. It quietly drains a person’s vitality. In other words, Master Zhong is stealing the life force of everyone on this ship. And this ship also contains a formation. If it is ever fully activated, it may trigger unimaginable calamity.”
“What?” Qi Yun’s face changed at once. “Then what should we do?”
“Once this wrist cuff is put on, its mystic eye has already seeped into the body. Throwing it away won’t help. Only I can erase it, and then nothing will happen. That is why I want you to gather the people from Jiangcheng later. I’ll wipe the mystic eye from these wrist cuffs for them.”
“And what about the others?”
“What concern are they of ours? Since they believe in that Master Zhong so devoutly, why should I bother destroying their faith?” Chen Yuyi said flatly.
Originally, he had intended to save everyone who had remained on the ship for many days, but before, over a mere cup of so-called calming tea, they had treated him like an enemy. He no longer cared to waste any effort on them. Besides, the life force of those people had already been drained quite severely. Once the ship’s formation was activated, they might not even be able to keep their lives.
Listening from the side, Shen Youlin’s mouth fell open again. So this wrist cuff really did have a problem. No wonder her brother-in-law had earlier brushed her wrist with his hand. He had been erasing that so-called mystic eye all along.
At once, a small pang of disappointment rose in her heart.
So when her brother-in-law had gone to help her mother earlier, he had also been erasing that wrist cuff. And yet her mother had actually scolded him. The more she thought about it, the more unfair it seemed to him. Her brother-in-law turned out to be such a good person, and she had always picked at him and cursed him. Thinking of that, Shen Youlin’s eyes even began to turn red.
She almost wanted to throw her arms around this brother-in-law and have a good cry, and then tell him she was sorry.
“Then, Mr. Chen, I’ll go gather the people from Jiangcheng at once and wait for your instructions!” Qi Yun said solemnly after Chen Yuyi erased the mystic eye from her wrist cuff.
“Mm, go ahead. If any of them drank that so-called calming tea, dissolve this pill in water and have them drink it.” Chen Yuyi took out a pill and said.
“What is this?” Qi Yun could not help asking.
“This is a curse-breaking pill. It can dissolve any poison or curse. One pill is enough for all of you. That so-called calming tea is actually a kind of curse tea. On the surface, it seems to refresh the mind, but in truth it hides curse worms inside. Its only purpose is that when the people who drink it die, they will turn into walking corpses.”
“Walking corpses!” Qi Yun and Shen Youlin both shuddered.
Qi Yun’s face changed drastically, and she did not dare delay another moment. Taking the curse-breaking pill, she hurried off to find the people from Jiangcheng.
“Brother-in-law, you’re amazing!” Shen Youlin could not help looking at Chen Yuyi with shining eyes.
Chen Yuyi smiled faintly at her. “Your brother-in-law has plenty of amazing things. But can you help me keep this secret from your sister? I don’t want to frighten her.”
“Of course. But does brother-in-law have any reward for me?” Shen Youlin said with a giggle, seemingly not the least bit afraid of what was about to happen.
“When this is over, whatever reward you want, I’ll satisfy you. Is that enough?” Chen Yuyi gently shook his head. This little girl was far more troublesome than her sister, though she should still be easy enough to appease.
“You said it! You’re not allowed to go back on your word then!” Shen Youlin’s brows curved into crescents, and she pointed at him, beaming.
“Fine. Your brother-in-law won’t go back on his word.” As he spoke, seeing how adorable she looked, he could not help reaching out to flick the tip of her nose.
At once, Shen Youlin felt her cheeks grow hot, and her heart began to race like a frightened deer. A shy, girlish awkwardness spread through her.
But Chen Yuyi paid none of that any mind. He was looking out over the river, sensing something.
That Master Zhong seemed to have hidden himself away, making it impossible for him to catch his aura; otherwise, he might already have gone after him.
A moment later, Chen Yuyi’s brows lifted. “So you’ve finally shown yourself.”
Behind him, Shen Youlin stood there with flushed cheeks, watching him, her mind full of things even she could not quite explain.
Qi Yun had already gathered the people from Jiangcheng into a room resembling a conference hall. She remained highly vigilant and allowed no one inside except familiar faces from Jiangcheng.
After diluting the curse-breaking pill in water, she was afraid that revealing the truth might cause panic, so she did not explain much. She only said that Mr. Chen had instructed them to drink it.
Naturally, the wealthy guests dared not be careless. They drank it without hesitation. After all, they had all seen with their own eyes how miraculous the pill Mr. Chen had produced was. There was no reason to think this was anything bad; it might even be more powerful than that so-called calming tea.
Afterward, they even asked curiously what kind of medicine it was.
Qi Yun merely said it was beneficial to the body, and they did not dare ask further.
Some of the wealthy ladies, however, found the smell unpleasant and refused to drink it, leaving their husbands utterly helpless.
Qi Yun was somewhat helpless as well. When they drank that so-called calming tea, why had they not complained about this and that?
“If you don’t want to die, then drink it quickly. If you miss this chance, you won’t get another drop later!” she snapped coldly.
The wealthy ladies were frightened by her sternness and finally forced themselves to swallow it, holding their breath through the foul smell. But some only pretended to drink, then secretly spat it out behind her back.
Liang Bingyan and Zhao Lan came here together with Xu Ruizhi, because after seeing them with Chen Yuyi, Qi Yun had sent people to invite them as well.
“What is this all about?” Xu Ruizhi asked in confusion, leaning on Zhao Lan’s arm.
Qi Yun personally stepped forward to support her. Although she did not know that Chen Yuyi was the son-in-law of the Shen family, she had seen with her own eyes that he had boarded the ship together with Xu Ruizhi, so she need not think twice to know that their relationship was certainly not shallow.
“Mrs. Shen, had you ever drunk the calming tea here before?”
“To be honest, it’s a shame. I had just been about to take a sip when my inconsiderate daughter knocked it over,” Xu Ruizhi said with deep regret.
“That’s good, then you don’t need to drink this water.”
At that, Zhao Lan could not help asking, “Miss Qi, why is that? Could it be that anyone who has drunk the calming tea must also drink this water?”
“Because Mr. Chen instructed me to do so. I don’t care to explain any more than that,” Qi Yun said, showing little patience for the Zhao family’s young lady.
“Mr. Chen?” Zhao Lan’s eyes lit up. “Is this Mr. Chen also on this ship?”
Qi Yun ignored her and said to the others, “If any of you drank the calming tea, it would be best to take a sip of this water.”
Liang Bingyan had not drunk the tea, but she urged Pan Fang and the others who had drunk the calming tea to hurry and drink the water.
By then, most of the water made from the curse-breaking pill had been consumed, and there should have been no one left out. The matter Mr. Chen had entrusted to her was finally finished, and Qi Yun let out a breath of relief.
What remained now was to wait for Mr. Chen to erase the mystic eyes from everyone’s wrist cuffs.
The grave look on her face seemed to frighten everyone present. They all felt that something terrible was about to happen, and many even began to regret boarding the True Man. Suddenly, a tremendous boom rang out.
No one knew what had happened, but the earlier sway of the ship and that thunderous sound had already made them feel that something was truly wrong, and everyone grew tense. Some of the more timid wealthy ladies even curled up into themselves.
“Youlin, my Youlin is still outside!” Xu Ruizhi began to panic as well, thinking of her daughter, who she had no idea where she had gone. As for that bargain son-in-law, she did not think of him at all at that moment.
“Please don’t worry, Mrs. Shen. Your daughter is with Mr. Chen. She’ll be fine,” Qi Yun comforted her.
When Zhao Lan heard this, she immediately sprang up. “You mean Youlin is with Mr. Chen?”
Qi Yun nodded and paid her no further attention.
But Zhao Lan was struck with shock. Could the Shen family’s son-in-law really be Mr. Chen? If so, then Youlin could only be with him now.
At that moment, Elder He leaned close to her and whispered, “Now I can be certain that the Shen family’s son-in-law really may be that Mr. Chen, because his surname is Chen!”
At Elder He’s words, Zhao Lan nearly collapsed to the floor.
The Shen family’s son-in-law was actually that Mr. Chen? How could that be? How could it be?
She still could not believe it, and yet the feeling urging her to believe it was so strong, because the way that man had carried himself before her had been so arrogant. Could that be the source of his confidence?
