Chapter Thirty-One: Carving a Path Through Blood
It seems I can no longer conceal my strength. If I keep holding back, I might not make it out alive today. Tiger Fang squad, prepare yourselves. Luo Yuan thought to himself as he removed his gold-edged black robe, stowing it in his backpack and revealing six Series-9 throwing knives strapped to his waist.
With a flicker of thought, the six knives soared up from his waist, hovering and circling around his body. The members of Fire Hammer squad were stunned by the sight, Chen Gu blinked hard twice, hardly believing his eyes. But it was true—the knives were suspended in midair, untouched by any visible force.
“A psychic warrior!”
“Telekinesis!”
“Luo Yuan is a psychic warrior?”
Luo Yuan turned, his sharp gaze falling on Luo Feng. “Luo Feng, this is a life-or-death moment. Don’t hide your strength—I know you’re a psychic warrior too. Let’s carve a path out together!”
“Alright, I understand.” Luo Feng nodded seriously, recognizing the gravity of the situation. He planned to ask Luo Yuan later how he had discovered his secret, but now was not the time. Soon, Luo Feng’s own six Series-6 throwing knives rose to float around him, leaving Gao Feng and the others dumbfounded. It felt surreal—there were two psychic warriors in their squad, and such warriors were coveted by every faction.
The beast horde thundered forward, their trampling splitting the ruined concrete beneath them, shaking the dilapidated buildings so hard that dust began to fall.
Luo Yuan and Luo Feng moved at the front, left and right, their floating knives humming with energy, forming a defensive domain around the seven members of Fire Hammer squad.
The fetid breath of the monsters permeated the air. Luo Yuan frowned, his gaze icy. He exchanged a look with Luo Feng, and the twelve knives hovering within ten meters of their bodies moved as one.
In the blink of an eye, the knives became blurs. With a sickening squelch, a knife pierced the skull of a charging lion mastiff, brain matter splattering with its passage. Controlled by psychic power, the knife instantly struck another monster’s skull at astonishing speed.
Twelve knives—within moments, the hundred monsters closest to Fire Hammer squad had their heads pierced through.
Blood and brain matter sprayed out. Amid the shrill roars of beasts, the hundred monsters, still running at full speed, collapsed en masse. Their bodies slid across the ground for over ten meters from inertia, leaving a trail of corpses behind the fleeing squad.
Gao Feng, Chen Gu, Zhang Ke, and the Wei brothers were all stunned. They had always known psychic warriors were powerful, but this was beyond belief.
Under the protection of Luo Yuan and Luo Feng’s knives, they rushed toward a high-rise residential complex. Any beast blocking their path was dispatched instantly with a knife through the skull. Luo Yuan continued to absorb and merge attributes along the way, especially psychic attributes dropped by Luo Feng, making him grow stronger with each battle. He showed no sign of fatigue, while Luo Feng was starting to feel the strain of rapidly depleting his psychic energy.
The number of attacking monsters swelled, an endless tide, each ferocious and fearless, howling as they charged.
“We need to finish this quickly and move to higher ground, or we’ll be worn out by sheer numbers,” Luo Yuan said to the group.
Everyone nodded in agreement.
“Luo Feng, protect the captain and the others. I’ll clear the path!” Luo Yuan called out.
“Understood!” Luo Feng replied.
Luo Yuan separated himself from the group, gripping his A9 Blood Shadow saber with six Series-9 knives floating by his side. With no one to slow him down and no lord-level monsters present, he decided to unleash his full power, eager to test his current strength and gather attributes, hoping to break through to the War God level.
“Die, you beasts!”
He leapt forward like a cannonball into the horde, crushing a lion mastiff’s skull beneath his feet and leaving a nearly ten-meter crater in the ground. Wielding his saber, he activated the first stage of the Ninefold Thunderblade technique. The monsters struck by his blade were sliced cleanly in half, while his knives shredded the attacking beasts from all angles.
With a thought, Luo Yuan clustered his six knives to form a miniature knife domain, slaughtering the beast soldiers, then letting the beast generals into his domain for him to personally dispatch, honing his blade skills, accumulating battle experience, and collecting precious materials.
Under Luo Feng’s knife protection, Fire Hammer squad followed the blood-soaked path Luo Yuan carved. The sight had numbed them with shock. Walking atop a road paved with monster corpses, they watched Luo Yuan grow ever stronger ahead, his combat suit dyed crimson with beast blood. Bathed in sunlight, he looked to them like an invincible war god.
...
On the rooftop of an ordinary ten-story apartment building, Luo Yuan and his companions rushed up.
With a loud clang, the stairwell door to the rooftop was slammed shut.
“Whew, we’ve escaped death this time,” Chen Gu gasped, lying on the rooftop.
“If it weren’t for Luo Yuan and Luo Feng, Fire Hammer squad would have been finished,” Gao Feng said gratefully, looking at the two.
“As long as everyone’s safe,” Luo Yuan replied, wiping blood from his body with a scrap of cloth he had grabbed on the way.
“Damn Tiger Fang squad! This grudge will be repaid!” Gao Feng growled.
“Don’t worry, next time we meet them in the wilderness, it’ll be their end,” Luo Yuan said coldly.
“Haha, Tiger Fang’s ambush was their stupidest move. If they knew they’d provoked two psychic warriors, they’d regret it to death. Luo Yuan alone could wipe out their entire squad,” Chen Gu laughed, and the others joined in.
“I want you all to keep my identity as a psychic warrior a secret,” Luo Feng suddenly said.
The others looked at him, puzzled.
“I just don’t want too much trouble,” Luo Feng explained, smiling. “Once word gets out, I’ll never have a peaceful life.”
“I agree with Luo Feng. Psychic warriors are rare, but before we grow strong, it’s easy to be controlled and used as tools. Even if we reveal ourselves, it should be in a safe setting. I plan not to disclose my identity until I break through to War God level,” Luo Yuan said.
“Haha, alright, we respect your wishes. Honestly, we’d prefer you don’t reveal yourselves—having two psychic warriors in our squad, what do we have to fear?” Captain Gao Feng declared, and the others nodded.
