Chapter 20: The Innocent Campus Beauty’s Last Reserve
Lin Yuwei stayed in Tang Tang’s dorm room, 303, for a long time, watching as Tang Tang devoured almost all of the delicious food. All that remained were scraps: some pasta, a few slices of bread, two slices of pizza, and a few eel sushi rolls.
Tang Tang wiped her red lips with a napkin and smiled. "I really can't eat any more, Yuwei. You’ve been so good to me; how can I ever repay you?"
Lin Yuwei’s smile was equally radiant. "It’s simple. Just come and help me clean up next time."
Tang Tang’s eyes lit up, completely oblivious to the trap. In the midst of a zombie apocalypse, such a good deal simply didn't exist. She was merely intoxicated by the sugar in the food; after all, as the old saying goes: big breasts, no brains.
Tang Tang replied, "Okay, okay! Call me next time, and I'll help you clean."
Lin Yuwei said, "Alright, I’m heading back now."
Tang Tang: "Okay, bye-bye, honey."
Lin Yuwei: "Bye-bye, wifey."
Calling each other "wifey" had become a fashion among the girls.
Lin Yuwei took the remaining food back to dorm 302. Geng Xuan and Pan Yu immediately rushed over like dogs catching the scent of food.
"Is there food? Is there food?"
"Did Qin Feng give you any food?"
Seeing her two roommates, Lin Yuwei felt a surge of utter disdain. With an expressionless face, she handed them the plastic bag. "Go ahead and eat."
Geng Xuan: "Wow, thank you, thank you! There’s even pizza!"
Pan Yu: "Oh, Yuwei, thank you so much! There are even several eel sushi rolls—I’ve never had Japanese food before."
Geng Xuan: "Don't worry, we will never tell Wu Changle that you were out for so long!"
Pan Yu: "Our lips are sealed. We’ll keep your secret to the end!"
Geng Xuan: "By the way, how does Qin Feng have both guns and delicious food?"
Pan Yu: "To be honest, Qin Feng is actually pretty handsome. Yuwei, you’re so lucky to have such a handsome simp; we’re dying for one but can't find one..."
Lin Yuwei said coldly, "Shut up! Just eat! Say one more word, and I’m never bringing you food again!"
Upon hearing this, Geng Xuan and Pan Yu hurriedly lowered their heads and began to gorge themselves, not daring to say another word for fear that Lin Yuwei would regret it and toss the food into the trash.
Lin Yuwei climbed onto her top bunk, pulled the curtain shut, and prepared to get some sleep to forget what had happened with Qin Feng earlier.
The time reached 10:30 PM. Outside the dormitory, the night was dark and profoundly silent, save for the low growls of wandering zombies. As usual, Wu Changle made a video call at this hour. Since three of his roommates had died, he had moved to a different dorm, living with three other male students from his major.
Wu Changle: [My dear Yuwei.]
Lin Yuwei: [Hmm.]
Wu Changle: [Why is your face so red? Are you hot?]
Lin Yuwei: [I don't think so. I just took a shower.]
Wu Changle: [Taking a shower consumes a lot of energy and drains your body heat. In a state of hunger, it's actually best to just lie still to avoid burning energy.]
Lin Yuwei rolled her eyes: [Yeah, I know. You just lie there, then.]
Wu Changle: [Qin Feng didn't bother you guys, did he? Listen, Qin Feng has a gun. If he knocks on your door, absolutely do not open it.]
Lin Yuwei rolled her eyes again: [Who would go out of their way to knock on a guy's door?]
Wu Changle smiled brilliantly: [That’s good, that’s good. Once the zombie crisis passes, I’ll buy you bags—LV, Prada, Gucci, whatever you want. I’ll buy you the most expensive ones.]
Lin Yuwei didn't want to listen to him anymore. The zombie crisis passes? Who knew when that would happen? Right now, the most practical thing was to give her a meal to eat... Besides, she hated it when guys made empty promises.
Lin Yuwei: [Alright, I’m going to sleep. Let’s talk tomorrow.]
Wu Changle: [Yeah, Yuwei, I love you so much. When the crisis is over, you’ll come home with me to meet my parents. They’ll love you as their daughter-in-law, and I’ll arrange a job for you in our provincial capital...]
Lin Yuwei: [We'll talk about it later. Hanging up, bye.]
*Beep, beep, beep...*
Wu Changle hung up the phone, feeling helpless and uneasy. Had his girlfriend actually gone to Qin Feng’s room? Had Qin Feng been harassing her?
No one knew.
Wu Changle only had one way to find out: message Geng Xuan and Pan Yu. He opened the "Lin Yuwei’s Besties" chat group. Since Cao Hong’s death, there were only three people left in the group.
[Are you there?]
[Yes.]
[Yes.]
[What are you guys doing?]
[Nothing much, just starving.]
[Did Lin Yuwei go see Qin Feng? Has Qin Feng looked for you guys?]
[What are you talking about? Of course not.]
[Your girlfriend is very well-behaved.]
[Yeah, Yuwei is very devoted to you. You really need to take good care of a girl who loves you this much.]
[I swear to heaven that Lin Yuwei stayed in dorm 302 all day. She’s almost starving to faint.]
[You boys should really think of a way to save us girls.]
[Wu Changle, if you let a girl as good as Lin Yuwei slip away, you’ll be the one crying.]
[Alright, alright, I get it. I’m sending you each a 200-yuan red packet. Keep monitoring for me.]
[Thanks for the red packet, boss.]
[Thanks for the red packet, boss! Wish you success and fortune!]
Geng Xuan and Pan Yu happily collected the red packets in the chat group. Even though money was useless during a zombie apocalypse, girls couldn't help but click when they saw a red packet. What if the crisis passed? What if the military sent tanks to wipe out all the zombies? By then, they could earn plenty more from Wu Changle.
Geng Xuan and Pan Yu exchanged glances and laughed. The two roommates had not only eaten until their mouths were greasy but had also collected red packets. Making money from both sides—it was infinitely satisfying!
The three girls in dorm 302 and Tang Tang in 303 all drifted off to sleep with full stomachs. But the rest of the women’s dormitory building went to sleep with their stomachs growling. Those in slightly better circumstances had powdered milk, instant coffee, or lotus root starch stored in their cabinets to supplement their sugar intake so they wouldn't starve to death. But for those in worse conditions, there was absolutely no food left in their dorms.
...
The next morning, the entire Binhai University was sleeping in. The 8:00 AM class bell rang as usual, but the teaching buildings had already been overrun by zombies. Only the student dorms and faculty housing still had survivors.
At noon, Qin Feng woke up feeling satisfied, lying in the comfortable bed of his system space. The faint aroma of the five-star hotel seafood buffet from the night before still lingered in the air, mixed with a trace of Lin Yuwei’s unique fragrance. It was a strange sensation.
Qin Feng stretched and sat up. Downstairs, a few lethargic zombies wandered aimlessly. The men’s dorm building opposite was deathly silent. Who would have thought that in the midst of this campus graveyard, his system space was a secluded paradise?
The apocalypse had stripped away human social attributes; order had collapsed, and morality had vanished. The upside was that there was no need for classes, no boring homework, and no need to worry about post-graduation career prospects. Everyone only needed to consider one thing: surviving. And, procreating...
The most primitive instincts of animals had become the only truth in the apocalypse. Human social attributes were stripped away, leaving only animal instincts. And he, as it happened, possessed the capital to realize all of it.
"System, open the system store."
"Purchase the newly listed breakfast."
[Ding! Unlocked: Energetic Breakfast (B-Grade): Full Cantonese Dim Sum set, including Crystal Shrimp Dumplings, Crab Roe Siu Mai, Steamed Chicken Feet in Black Bean Sauce, and Golden Lava Buns. Includes freshly ground mellow soy milk. Cost: 2,000 points. Remaining points: 9,000.]
The moment the points were deducted, the room door pushed open silently. AI flight attendant Xiao Qing, dressed in a tight black skirt uniform with smooth black silk stockings on her legs, walked in with elegant steps, pushing a silver food cart. Her face always wore a standard, sweet smile, and her movements were impeccable.
On the cart, bamboo steamers emitted wisps of heat, giving off an enticing aroma. Xiao Qing placed the steamers on the table one by one and lifted the lids. A rich scent of food instantly filled the room.
The Crystal Shrimp Dumplings were thin as cicada wings, crystal clear, with pink shrimp meat visible inside. The Crab Roe Siu Mai had solid meat fillings wrapped in golden skins, topped with a pinch of bright red crab roe. The Steamed Chicken Feet were stewed until soft and falling off the bone, coated in a rich, savory black bean sauce. The Golden Lava Buns looked plump, soft, and delicious. Beside them was a cup of steaming, freshly ground soy milk, the rich bean aroma invigorating.
Qin Feng didn't reach for the chopsticks immediately. He took out his phone and carefully took several photos of the sumptuous breakfast from different angles. Each shot was bright and enticing, capturing the steaming, atmospheric feel perfectly.
Then, he opened his chat with Lin Yuwei and sent the photos one by one.
Qin Feng: [What are you doing, beautiful? Come over and have some Cantonese breakfast.]
Message sent.
He sat down at the table, picked up the soy milk, and took a small sip. It was mellow, warm, and had a hint of sweetness. His phone screen lit up.
Lin Yuwei: [Just woke up.]
Qin Feng: [Image/Image/Image/Image/. Come over quickly.]
He could almost imagine Lin Yuwei’s throat gulping as she looked at these pictures. A few seconds later.
Lin Yuwei: [Hmm, looks pretty tasty.]
Qin Feng’s smile deepened. This polite response betrayed her inner struggle and desire.
Qin Feng: [So, are you coming or not?]
He stopped beating around the bush and issued an ultimatum. Silence followed on the other end. A full minute passed. Qin Feng didn't urge her; he picked up his chopsticks, grabbed a shrimp dumpling, and put it in his mouth. The bouncy skin and the fresh, firm shrimp created an explosion of flavor.
Just then, a message came from Lin Yuwei.
Lin Yuwei: [I'm not coming. I was quite full last night.]
This was her final, weakest attempt at restraint. Qin Feng’s eyes turned cold, and his fingers tapped a line of text on the screen.
Qin Feng: [Not coming? Don't regret it.]
...
Dorm 302.
Lin Yuwei stared fixedly at the words on her phone screen. "Don't regret it."
Those four words instantly opened the floodgates of fear in her heart.
