Chapter 16: Lin Yuwei Wants to See Qin Feng's Gun
Lin Yuwei decided not to look at Qin Feng’s messages, lest the endless stream of food pictures he sent continue to tempt her. She had made up her mind: she would not sell her youthful, pristine body to Qin Feng for the sake of a meal. That would be too cheap. How could a single meal be worth a girl’s most precious treasure?
Enduring this, Lin Yuwei went from breakfast all the way to dinner without eating anything, save for some coffee to barely maintain her blood sugar levels. By ten o’clock that night, there was still no sign of military aid. The rooftop of the teaching building, once a scene of frantic scrambling yesterday, was now deserted. In its place, the girls’ dormitories were filled with irrepressible arguments. The walls were thin, and the sounds penetrated through, carrying desperate roars and sobs.
Lin Yuwei wore her headphones, watching a romantic urban drama on her laptop. On screen, the protagonists were dating in a high-end restaurant, bickering over some trivial matter. Under normal circumstances, she would have found it engrossing. Now, the exquisite steaks and red wine on the screen felt like a dull blade, slicing at her stomach bit by bit. Hunger was like an invisible hand, gripping her internal organs and making her dizzy. The pictures of delicacies Qin Feng had sent played on a loop in her mind, each one so vivid she could almost smell the aroma.
Lin Yuwei swallowed her saliva uncontrollably. *Oh, I can’t take it anymore. Damn it, when will this apocalypse end?*
Just then, her roommates Geng Xuan and Pan Yu started fighting over food.
"Geng Xuan! Did you steal my apple?"
"I didn't! Don't you dare slander me!"
"You did! That core in the trash is proof! That was my last apple, which I hid so well!"
"That was leftover from yesterday! You ate my half-bag of chips, too! Don't think I didn't notice!"
The argument escalated from stealing food to digging up past grievances, and finally to personal attacks. Annoyed, Lin Yuwei yanked off her headphones. "Stop it!"
Her voice was hoarse, and the room fell silent instantly. In the next second, both Geng Xuan and Pan Yu turned their hostility toward her.
"Lin Yuwei, you're telling us to be quiet?" Geng Xuan sneered.
"You're the campus beauty, so you're high and mighty! You’re pretty, you have a wealthy boyfriend, and you have Qin Feng acting like your dog!" Pan Yu’s tone was thick with jealousy. "You're obviously not hungry! Why won't you help us? Even going to the next room to borrow food would be something!"
Lin Yuwei bit her lip until it turned pale.
"You know Qin Feng, right? Just ask him for some food! Even if you have to sacrifice yourself."
"Exactly, you're pretty, you should know how to use your looks!"
Geng Xuan and Pan Yu’s words were laced with hidden meanings and bitterness. Lin Yuwei felt a surge of blood to her head, nearly choking on her own fury.
*Right, Qin Feng.*
What Qin Feng had said burned in her memory like a hot iron. If she went to him again, she had to be prepared to… make a sacrifice. She really didn't want to. She didn't want to sacrifice her virtue for a meal.
Just then, her phone lit up. It was a message from Wu Changle.
Wu Changle: [Baby, how are you?]
Lin Yuwei’s fingers hovered over the screen for a long time before she slowly replied:
Lin Yuwei: [Not good.]
Wu Changle: [Do you have anything to eat?]
Lin Yuwei: [Of course I don't, I'm starving, boo hoo.]
She sent two crying emojis, hoping for some comfort from her boyfriend.
Wu Changle: [Wait a little longer. The military didn't deliver supplies today either. Everyone is hungry. Actually, this might be for the best. After what happened in your dorms yesterday, being hungry and lacking the energy to fight might be a good thing, haha.]
That "haha" was like a needle, piercing Lin Yuwei’s heart. Her blood boiled.
Lin Yuwei: [Angry/Angry/. You’re still saying things like this? You guys, not a single one of you is a good person. You watch us girls kill each other and not one of you comes to help. You brag about how organized you boys are, so do you think we girls deserve to tear each other apart?]
Wu Changle: [I didn't mean...] Wu Changle’s "haha" was just meant as a joke.
Lin Yuwei continued to vent her anger on her boyfriend:
Lin Yuwei: [Are you even worthy of being my boyfriend? You watch your girlfriend starving and being bullied here, have you ever helped me?]
Wu Changle: [Sigh, Yuwei, I want to help, but I can't. There are zombies downstairs. Even Wang Zi doesn't dare go save his girlfriend; he just told Tang Tang to lock the door and not come out. If Tang Tang can do it, why can't you?]
Lin Yuwei: [I... damn you... get lost!]
Lin Yuwei: [I regret ever knowing you!]
After sending the last message, Lin Yuwei threw her phone onto the bed. Tears burst forth—not from feeling wronged, but from despair, anger, and a completely broken heart. Wang Zi was no man, and Wu Changle was a total waste of space. The values of the peaceful era were worthless in the apocalypse.
Lin Yuwei wiped her tears, her eyes turning cold and calm. She suddenly felt that Qin Feng shooting Cao Hong and Zheng Hao wasn't wrong at all. That feeling must have been satisfying.
*Bang. Bang. Bang.*
Clear away everyone she hated, everything that stood in her way. She had had enough. Enough of the hunger, enough of the roommates' bickering, and even more so, enough of the empty promises from her useless boyfriend, Wu Changle.
Lin Yuwei jumped off the bed and said to her two chattering roommates: "Enough, shut up, all of you!"
Her voice wasn't loud, but it carried an unquestionable resolve that stunned Geng Xuan and Pan Yu.
"I’m going to Qin Feng’s room now."
"I’m going to see if he has food. If there’s extra, I’ll bring some back for you."
Lin Yuwei’s icy gaze swept across their faces. "But, if you dare tell Wu Changle a single word, I won't bring you a single bite!"
Geng Xuan and Pan Yu’s expressions changed instantly, replaced by delight.
"Okay, okay, Yuwei." They immediately put on fawning faces. "Go, go. We’ve seen it—if Qin Feng can get a gun, he can definitely get food!"
"We won't say anything, we promise we won't tell Wu Changle!"
"Why don't you break up with Wu Changle and just be with Qin Feng?"
"Yeah, who knows if the world will ever go back to normal? Qin Feng has a gun; Qin Feng is the order!"
"Yuwei, you’re the best to us. You’re much prettier than Tang Tang. On the campus beauty list, you’re the real number one!"
Lin Yuwei gave a cold hum, ignoring their clumsy flattery. She walked to the mirror and tidied herself up. She took off her pajamas and put on a pair of tight, high-elasticity jeans that outlined the perfect curves of her legs and hips. On top, she wore a tight, short gray T-shirt that clung to her body, accentuating her figure. She combed her long hair carefully until every strand was smooth.
The girl in the mirror was beautiful, but her eyes held a tragic, decisive look.
*The wind blows, the Yi River is cold; the warrior goes, never to return.*
Lin Yuwei thought to herself with a bitter smile, then turned and left Dorm 302. The hallway was deathly silent, with only the occasional scream echoing from afar. The door to 301 was right in front of her. She looked at the "ultra-thin, extra-lubricated, extra-long" item in her bag. She had bought it last Christmas but never used it; she didn't know if it had expired.
Lin Yuwei raised her hand, hesitated for a long time, and finally knocked on the door.
*Knock, knock.*
*Knock, knock.*
"Qin Feng, are you there?"
"It’s Lin Yuwei."
Her voice was unnaturally calm.
At this moment, in Dorm 301, Qin Feng had actually been hungry for a day. To redeem the M16 assault rifle, he had spent all of the system's remaining 3,000 points. Fortunately, he had eaten well yesterday, so he could still manage. He had spent the day lounging on the sofa, bored, watching travel documentaries on TV and taking screenshots of the food to send to Lin Yuwei. It was both a tease and a gamble.
Now, he finally heard the knock. *Damn, she’s finally here. The gamble paid off.*
This sound didn't just mean he would have food to eat today; it meant he could have Lin Yuwei today. Qin Feng slowly stood up, a smile curling at the corner of his mouth. He walked to the door and opened it, unhurried.
Lin Yuwei stood outside, looking even more charming and moving than in the photos or his memory. She was dressed so beautifully that it was clear she had come prepared. Qin Feng stepped aside immediately to let her in. Lin Yuwei stepped inside, bringing a faint scent of shampoo with her.
*Click.*
The door behind her was closed and locked by Qin Feng. The room was very quiet. Qin Feng stood right in front of her, his gaze unashamedly lingering on her body. Her curves were truly beautiful; the campus beauty was indeed perfectly proportioned.
"Campus beauty Lin Yuwei, you finally arrived."
"Mm..." Lin Yuwei clenched her fists, forcing herself to meet his gaze.
"You know what your arrival today means, right?"
Lin Yuwei’s body stiffened, then she nodded.
"I know." She took a deep breath and stated her conditions. "But you must let me eat until I'm full."
"Of course. I’ll definitely feed you well," Qin Feng smiled.
"Then let's start. Don't waste time."
She spoke in a matter-of-fact tone, as if that could cover up the humiliation and panic in her heart. "Also, there must be plenty of food. I need to bring some back for my two roommates."
"Sure. Why do you still care about them?" Qin Feng agreed readily.
Lin Yuwei was silent for a few seconds, as if gathering her final bit of courage. "Also, they all said you have a gun. Can you show me?"
She looked up, biting her lower lip, a complex light flickering in her beautiful eyes. It was a mix of fear, curiosity, and even a hint of worship for powerful strength.
Qin Feng’s smile deepened. He stepped forward, leaning close to her ear, his warm breath brushing against her earlobe.
"Haha, you want to see my gun?"
Lin Yuwei’s cheeks flushed crimson instantly, but she did not retreat.
"Yes."
"Then I'll take it out and show you."
