Chapter 6: Werewolf—Isn't It Just One Word? It's All Deception!

Within the virtual space.
As the judge announced dawn,
the masks on the faces of the twelve contestants around the round table vanished.
Except for Wang Changsheng, almost everyone was observing the others, trying to discern their true identities.
Some did so with exaggerated expressions, as if itching to stand up and pace around.
Others were more reserved, calmly glancing around with composed expressions.
Wang Changsheng noticed that among the remaining eleven, Brother Dao’s reaction was the most flamboyant.
He observed that the corners of Brother Dao’s mouth seemed difficult to suppress, though he quickly composed himself and put on a bewildered look.
“Heh, could it be he thinks he tricked my witch’s potion?” Wang Changsheng sneered inwardly.
[The sheriff election begins now. Players who wish to run, please raise your hands.]
At that moment, a magnetic voice rang out.
Wang Changsheng, along with several others, promptly raised their hands.
In this game, the sheriff nomination phase is crucial for both werewolves and villagers.
In particular, for the Divine Wolf, claiming the seer role during this phase is of utmost importance.
Of course, if villagers want to manipulate the situation, they can also claim seer to expose players they suspect as wolves.
However, a quick scan showed that not many chose to step forward this time.
[This round, five players have risen for sheriff: Player 3, 6, 7, 10, and 11.]
[According to the order, Player 6 will begin speaking, Player 7 please prepare.]
As the judge’s magnetic voice fell,
the cute Player 6 by Wang Changsheng’s side chuckled softly.
She shrank her body slightly and playfully said, “I’m not the seer.”
“Didn’t expect to be the first to speak in this position. Well, I just wanted to express some feelings — this round is the last game, everyone, let’s give it our all~”
Though cute, she carried a formidable presence.
As she spoke, she inexplicably straightened up, then continued, “Besides that, I wanted to discern the seer, but since I’m the first to speak, I’ll just share my gut feelings about others.”

Player 6 glanced around at everyone, finally resting her gaze briefly on Wang Changsheng.
But she didn’t linger and quickly averted her eyes.
“Not sure if my intuition’s accurate. Just to be clear, I’m only sharing and won’t outright kill or protect anyone, so don’t hold this against me later.”
“Hmm…”
She supported one hand beneath her chest while stroking her chin with the other.
“There aren’t many players running for sheriff. Firstly, I think Player 11’s expression when revealing their cards was a bit odd, not very promising. Since you’re also running, I’ll listen to your speech later.”
“Then there’s Player 10. I happened to notice your two cards. I think Player 11 is questionable, but Player 10 seems okay. Let’s hear more from you both later — that’s just my intuition.”
At this point, she waved her hand dismissively. “Alright then, I won’t waste time. If not elected sheriff, I’ll step aside. I’m done!”
Though Player 6 was a werewolf, she expertly feigned the innocent perspective of a lost villager from her seat.
One must admit, the acting skills of women can be impeccable.
Had Wang Changsheng not seen her open her eyes during the werewolf night phase, he might have been fooled.
Moreover, she mentioned Players 10 and 11 — one claimed seer, the other a trustworthy villager card.
Such ambiguous cues might lead the real seer at Player 10 to believe Player 6 was a genuine villager.
“Truly, in a national-level professional tournament, players who make it from 48 to 24 are none to be underestimated.”
[Player 7, please begin your speech.]
It was his turn.
Wang Changsheng’s expression was calm and composed.
Werewolf games are essentially about deception!
But his helmet had a hole — he observed the night actions.
No matter how skillfully the werewolves pretended or lied, it was useless against him.
He only needed to arrange his words carefully to convince the other villagers at outer seats to trust him.
Of course, he wouldn’t attack Player 6 immediately after her speech.
That would be too obvious and might make other villagers suspect him as the wolf.
So Wang Changsheng pondered briefly.

The performance began!
“Player 6’s speech was quite decent. Of course, I’m not defending her — she spoke first, merely shared her gut feelings without further moves, so I consider her speech acceptable.”
“However, her intuition differs from mine. I think Player 10’s card reveal leans towards good, but I don’t think Player 11’s is that bad. We’ll hear more on that shortly.”
“There are only five cards among the sheriff candidates. I’m a villager, and I lean slightly towards Player 6 since she didn’t claim seer early, choosing instead to challenge the later seer claim. So tentatively, I consider her slightly above average.”
“Both Player 6 and I think Player 10’s card reveal is decent, and I believe Player 11’s isn’t too bad either. If there is a wolf among the sheriff candidates, it might only be Player 3.”
Wang Changsheng’s gaze fixed on the sharp-faced man glaring at him.
He smiled casually without much concern.
“So if Player 3 claims seer, I’m unlikely to side with him, but I’ll listen to more speeches first. If he doesn’t claim and Players 10 and 11 do, then I might have misjudged.”
His speech was steady and coherent, with solid emotion and no stumbles, leaving a good impression.
He noticed many villagers at the outer seats nodded subtly, seeming to side with him.
This was not only because he spoke well but also because he refrained from attacking the wolf disguised as Player 6.
Even he felt Player 6’s speech was decent, let alone other villagers.
Recklessly targeting Player 6 would only hasten his own demise.
Though he held the witch’s identity and wasn’t afraid of outer-seat villagers attacking him,
the poison had already been used, and he only held one antidote.
To administer the antidote, he had to survive first.
This round, there was no reason to reveal himself by attacking Player 6 as a wolf.
Nor could he claim having poisoned Player 3, which might lead Player 3 to reveal their own poison and potentially kill one of Players 10 or 11 at night despite a guard.
If the werewolves then eliminated him, Wang Changsheng would be devastated.
Therefore, for the sake of victory and to crush Player 3, he chose to proceed cautiously.
