Chapter 32: This Guy Must Be the Chosen One!
"This setup is 'Evil Merchant'! Isn't that way more interesting than a Wolf King getting poisoned on the first night?"
"Yeah, absolutely! This setup offers so much more playability for the wolf pack!"
"Hey, look! The God-Slaying team actually put Raven in this time! Holy cow! They're pulling out the big guns right from the start? Are they not planning to play the rest of the matches?"
"We get to see a legendary duel right out of the gate! This is awesome!"
The auditorium was a roar of noise. Everyone was buzzing about the contestants. When they saw who the God-Slaying team had fielded, many in the audience were electrified.
Inside the Thought-Warfare team lounge, Huang Manmiao watched the list of contestants on the screen, her delicate brows knitting together.
"Raven is the God-Slaying team's ace seed; they're grooming him to be their franchise player. Are they really throwing him out there in the very first game?"
Curly-hair was also chiming in excitedly from the side: "Boss Huang, look! The Wolf Pack sent out Cheng Xiao! What are these guys up to? Are they teaming up to snipe us?"
"These players are on a much higher level than the last batch. Even the ace 'Mad-Fierce' from the 'Gun-Like-a-Dragon' team only lost because Brother Wang poisoned him on the first day. Otherwise, who knows how that game would have turned out!" some team members worried.
However, Huang Manmiao smoothed out her brow. "Hmph, we’re currently ranked tenth anyway. Even if little Wang loses a few points, it doesn't matter. As long as we secure the faction points, if you all put in some effort later, we still have a chance to break into the top twelve."
Huang Manmiao swept a glance at the team members behind her. They trembled instantly and hurriedly lowered their heads like chicks.
"Look at those pathetic faces! If it comes to your turn to play, even if you have to resort to dirty tactics, you’d better secure those faction points! Do you hear me?"
With so many teams looking to snipe her, Huang Manmiao figured that if she tried to play by the book, winning would be nearly impossible.
Therefore...
"Since you’ve shown no mercy, don’t blame me for being ruthless. Hmph, besides being called the 'Little Master of Incitement,' don't forget my other nickname!"
A sharp glint flashed through Huang Manmiao's beautiful eyes, and she let out a cackling, wicked laugh. The other team members shrank back, glancing at each other with heads bowed.
"Boss Huang is making that face again!"
"It's over, she’s planning to make us play dirty again..."
"Back in the day, Boss Huang was known as the 'Heavenly Rascal,' she was the queen of underhanded play..."
"There's no other way. Our team is in such a state now; if we don't cheat a little, we won't even have a shot at the last spot in the top 24."
That was right. Aside from her rigorous training, Huang Manmiao would occasionally teach them some "special tricks."
For example, how to bluff their way into being recognized as Good guys without breaking the rules, forcing others to accept their claims...
Truth be told, they were quick learners. In critical moments where points were essential and they were on the verge of being banished from the game, these tactics had always helped them turn the tide.
Now, Huang Manmiao’s only worry was: "I haven't taught little Wang how to play dirty yet. What if he can't argue his way out and just sits there stubbornly?"
While she worried, the game system finished explaining the setup.
[This game uses the Evil Merchant perspective.]
"Night has fallen, please close your eyes."
As the judge's voice faded, the light on the screen in the center of the room dimmed. The system had already highlighted the location of the Evil Merchant.
"No way? It's Number 7 again? How is he a special role every single time?"
"Oh my goodness, Witch last game, Evil Merchant this time! And we're always seeing it from his perspective! Is Brother Changsheng a child of destiny?"
"Evil Merchant is on the wolf team, right? Brother Changsheng is a wolf this time? Hahaha, he can't just splash poison anymore; I really want to see how he plays this!"
"I wonder what factions Raven from God-Slaying and Cheng Xiao from Wolf Pack are in. Judge, speed it up!"
The audience was shouting in excitement. After the Guard opted for an empty protect, the game entered the werewolf phase.
[Werewolves, please open your eyes.]
"Please choose your target for the kill."
Among the twelve players on the field, Number 4, 6, 7, and 10 took off their masks. Wang Changsheng looked around to confirm his teammates.
"Man, this 'Hole in the Helmet' skill isn't quite as reliable as I thought," Wang Changsheng muttered to himself. Although his skill allowed him to see the movement trajectories of others at night, being a wolf made his vision somewhat passive, as only the Guard could act before the werewolves. In this group of twelve, he could only confirm the identities of five people—aside from his wolf teammates, only the Guard.
"Such a pity, if only he had protected himself on the first day," Wang Changsheng thought, his gaze landing on Number 3. That guy had chosen to guard no one. If he had shielded himself, and the wolves had attacked him while the Witch used a healing potion, he would have been saved the next day.
Wang Changsheng sighed. His wolf teammates also saw him take off his mask, and they exchanged glances. A moment later, the three began gesturing frantically.
"Who is the Evil Merchant?"
"Not me."
"Not me either."
"So the Evil Merchant is Number 7?"
Several pairs of eyes turned toward Wang Changsheng. Number 4, from the "Insanity Supreme" team, was named "I Only Play Pure Jade." Upon seeing Wang Changsheng, he looked utterly disappointed: "This guy is a wolf? What a shame, no way to kill him off."
Wang Changsheng: "..."
Number 6 was Raven from the God-Slaying team. He smiled when he saw Wang Changsheng open his eyes: "You actually got Evil Merchant this time. You're quite lucky. You can give the wolf pack a hunting rifle on the first day. Who are you planning to give it to?"
Number 10 was Chuxia from the Wave-Flower team, a great beauty: "The person who gets the rifle should jump as the Seer. Even if they don't get the police badge, it'll still be easier to fire."
Wang Changsheng thought for a moment and used gestures to ask: "Who is willing to jump?"
"I Only Play Pure Jade" quickly raised his hand: "Let me jump! Let me jump! I’ll definitely get the real Seer banished!"
Seeing his confidence, Number 6 and Number 10 had no objections. Since Wang Changsheng was the Evil Merchant, he had to stay hidden on the first day and naturally couldn't jump. Seeing someone volunteer, he nodded.
Number 6, Raven, was somewhat slender, looking about the same age as Wang Changsheng, likely only around twenty. His features were refined, his face a bit long but clearly defined, especially his eyes, which were deep and spirited. Despite his youthful looks, he had some stubble on his chin, which made him appear much more mature.
"Who are we killing today?"
