Chapter 25: Number 6: I Am the Hunter

Werewolf is a team game.
The struggle and maneuvering between opposing factions requires every member of the team to give it their all.
This is especially true for the wolves who know one another’s identities. Only by working together closely could they hope to defeat the villagers.
Therefore, every word spoken by a teammate deserved careful consideration.
Player 6 understood that Player 5 wanted her to claim a power role.
After all, many people had attacked her the previous day as well.
This round, they absolutely could not afford to lose even one of their own.
Otherwise, they could simply reveal their cards and concede.
So, in order to avoid being voted out this round, Player 6 had to claim a power role when Player 5 had already claimed Villager.
And which power role to claim required careful deliberation.
If she claimed Guard outright, most people probably would not believe her.
A real Guard would not reveal themselves this round.
But if she claimed Hunter...
As long as no one in the later speaking positions counterclaimed her, there was no way they would vote her out.
That meant the cute girl herself had to judge where the Hunter was most likely sitting.
Especially Player 7, who had attacked her wolf teammate, Player 5, the previous day.
The cute girl quietly glanced at Wang Changsheng from the corner of her eye.
That guy had also been cleared by the Seer.
And he was speaking after her.
If her claimed role happened to collide with his, she would certainly die today...
But she had no choice.
She had to claim a power role.
After letting out a long breath inwardly, Player 6 puffed out her cheeks and pretended to tilt her head in thought.
“Should I claim my role?”
She put on a hesitant expression and glanced at Player 10, the Seer.
After stalling for a moment, she finally showed the look of someone who had made up her mind and said, “Forget it. I’ll just claim directly. I’m the Hunter.”
The cute girl blinked her large eyes. Her delicate nose was high and straight, and her pearly teeth gleamed.
She had gone over the possibilities several times before deciding to claim Hunter.
“The reason I voted for Player 9 yesterday is very simple. First, the Seer called for everyone to vote out Player 9. Since I was standing with Player 10, of course I had to follow his vote.”
“Also, when I spoke yesterday, I actually wanted to say that there was no need to check me tonight, because I’m a gun. Even if you checked me, I would only turn out to be a confirmed good player. But that was ultimately the Seer’s decision. Although I know I’m a villager, before you checked me and confirmed me as good, I couldn’t change your investigation plan.”
“So if you wanted to check me, then check me. Once you confirmed me as good, even if you were eliminated, I could lead the village as the Hunter without any problem. But I never expected the player in the final position yesterday to suggest choosing between Players 5 and 6, then checking the other one!”
“I was stunned. I thought I wouldn’t need to reveal my role last round, but unexpectedly, the discussion came straight to me. Although I’m the Hunter and can shoot someone, aside from Player 9, who voted with the wolves, I really couldn’t identify any wolf. And so many players still hadn’t revealed their roles. If you eliminated me and I accidentally took the Guard with me, what would we do?”

“So if you had voted me out last round, I probably could only have taken Player 9 with me. That was the second reason I voted for Player 9.”
“After all, I didn’t know which of Players 5 and 6 you would vote for. If I were eliminated and then took another villager with me, the village’s advantage would collapse immediately.”
The cute girl’s voice sounded soft and sweet.
Everything in her speech was grounded in logic.
Aside from Player 4, all the other villagers secretly nodded when they heard her reasons for voting.
Even her wolf teammate, Player 5, showed a subtle expression of approval.
Only Player 4 could not smile at all.
As someone who had already spoken in an earlier position, he had not chosen to reveal his role.
He had never expected that someone behind him—no, a wolf—would simply put on his clothes!
This was absurd!
Damn it!
Player 4 regretted it deeply.
He should have claimed immediately.
But that was the nature of Werewolf.
Sometimes, one wrong step could lead straight to ruin.
As the Hunter, he was not afraid of being eliminated.
Even if he died, he could simply fire his shot and kill the wolf who dared to wear his identity.
But the current situation was different.
No one at the table was discussing him at all!
He was practically sitting in the judges’ gallery.
No one was calling him a villager, but no one was calling him a wolf either.
He had been placed high above the table, completely untouched.
What the hell was he supposed to do?
Player 4 badly wanted to make an ugly face, but he could not.
Otherwise, the system might judge that he was transmitting information through his expression.
“Damn it. Am I really supposed to watch helplessly as she wears my identity and survives into the next day?”
Player 4 clenched his teeth so hard they nearly shattered.
If Player 6 wore his identity this round and a villager was voted out elsewhere, the village would probably lose its lead in the game.
Player 4 was consumed by regret.
Yet there was nothing he could do.

Player 6, the cute girl, continued speaking at length.
“Although Player 5 attacked me yesterday, I found his defense this round very convincing. I also think Player 2 is a player whose words and actions don’t match. As a wolf, he knew that Player 9 might be a villager being eliminated. So although he wanted to push both Player 5 and me out last round, once the Seer called for Player 9 to be eliminated, he simply chose to follow the vote.”
“Because if Player 9 was a villager, then whether he voted for Player 9 or for one of Players 5 and 6, he would benefit either way.”
At this point, the cute girl paused slightly.
By claiming Hunter, she had protected Player 5.
If no one in the later positions counterclaimed her, the Seer might genuinely choose to vote out Player 2.
The two of them were wolves sitting safely together. Even if the villagers realized the next day that they were linked, it would not matter.
They could simply fight the Guard in the final shootout.
But if someone in a later position counterclaimed her...
The cute girl thought it over and decided that was unlikely.
She believed the Hunter was probably among the players who had spoken earlier.
Especially Player 4.
He had been very forceful the previous round and had sounded extremely confident.
He seemed quite capable of holding the Hunter role.
Regarding Player 4’s identity, Players 5 and 6 had reached somewhat different conclusions.
The cute girl did not believe that Player 4 was necessarily the Guard merely because he had stood up and praised the Guard. On the contrary, she felt he was more likely to be the Hunter.
But the exact role was not particularly important.
Player 4 was certainly not a Villager.
“Of course, we can’t rule out the possibility that Player 9 is a wolf. If Player 9 is a wolf, Player 2 may have been unwilling to keep insisting on eliminating me, Player 6. He might have had no choice but to follow the Seer and push out his own wolf teammate.”
The cute girl did not base her entire speech on the assumption that Player 9 was a villager.
She had also left room for him to be a wolf.
By analyzing both possibilities, she would make herself appear even more like the Hunter in the eyes of the other villagers.
“So if Player 9 is a villager, then Player 2 is a wolf, while Players 8 and 12 could also be wolves, especially since Player 12 protected Player 2.”
“But if Player 9 is a wolf, then Player 2 is still a wolf, while Player 8 could be a villager, since she was the first person to stand up and attack Player 9. In that case, Player 12 still belongs in the wolf pool.”
“That is my wolf list. Players 7 and 11 have been cleared. My read on Players 4 and 5 is favorable. I’m the Hunter, and Player 10 is the Seer. There are only so many positions left. Regardless of whether Player 9 is a wolf or a villager, Player 2 is definitely a wolf because his words and actions don’t match. So this round, I may vote for Player 2—unless Player 8, the sister speaking later, sounds more like a wolf to me.”
Having said this, the cute girl let out a faint breath.
She felt that her speech had been flawless.
With deep satisfaction, she nodded.
“That’s all I have.”
“Pass.”
