Chapter 16: Intuition

Shen Bing did not respond, only taking out two yellow crystal cores and feeding them into the mouth of the lucky cat. Listening to its cheerful announcement, the corner of his mouth involuntarily twitched upward, but he quickly suppressed it.
He picked up a whole book of Big 7 scratch cards, carefully selecting six. Lu Li watched, wanting to stop him.
But since he was the first customer of the day, she let it be—he could take all the delicacies if he wanted.
Three minutes later, Lu Li regretted it and wanted to withdraw her earlier thought, but it was too late; the two-minute limit had passed!
She helplessly watched Shen Bing collect six rewards from the table into his storage space—fruits, vegetables, fast food, all neatly gathered!
Curious, Lu Li couldn’t help but whisper, “Shen Bing, how do you always manage to scratch out rewards?”
Shen Bing was in a very good mood, a slight smug smile tugging at the corner of his mouth as he said with a bit of pride, “Intuition.”
Intuition?! What intuition? You can really rely on that?
Lu Li was both annoyed and speechless, almost wanting to limit Shen Bing’s purchases to ten scratch cards a day.
Otherwise, all her food here would be taken by him, and how could she keep the business going? Others wouldn’t come to scratch anymore!
Shen Bing took out two more yellow crystal cores, preparing to feed the lucky cat again. At that moment, Lu Li overheard some whispered conversations nearby.
“Isn’t that Shen Bing?”
“Definitely! Who else would wear a cloak in this scorching heat?”
“Why is Shen Bing here at our base?”
“He’s always been a drifter. If it weren’t for his high rank, who would tolerate that bad temper of his?”
“Exactly, young but short-tempered. Last time he offended the base leader’s sister…”
“I heard he especially enjoys tormenting children, very cruel methods. Why hasn’t the Central Base arrested him yet?”
Those people stood behind the RV whispering quietly. Lu Li’s hearing wasn’t sharp, catching only fragments.
It seemed they were talking about Shen Bing? Lu Li glanced at him. He was seriously focused on scratching the cards.
The low brim of his hat concealed his entire face; she couldn’t see his expression, but her intuition told her he was not pleased.
There was an aura—everyone’s energy surrounding them showed emotions: sadness, happiness, positivity…
Lu Li suddenly stood up, took out a megaphone, and shouted at the group, “What are you staring at? Get lost! If you like gossiping, be careful your tongue gets pulled out!”
She placed one hand firmly on the table, holding the megaphone with the other, standing tall and imposing.
Shen Bing looked up in surprise at her. The sunlight bathed her, and she radiated a brilliance called greatness.

For some reason, he felt a warmth in his heart. They weren’t close, yet she stood up for him.
Then Lu Li glanced down at him, just as their eyes met, both momentarily stunned.
She said, “Keep scratching. Don’t mind them. Don’t let them ruin your mood.”
Shen Bing lowered his head and continued scratching, thinking he hadn't even paid attention to them, much less cared.
The group, scolded, clearly displeased, tried to argue, but others quickly pulled them away.
Lu Li caught a remark, “Are you crazy? That’s Shen Bing! Do you think he’s easy to mess with?”
She raised an eyebrow. Shen Bing wasn’t just notorious at the Newborn Base; he had quite a reputation at the Hope Base too.
Everyone hated him intensely but kept their distance.
Suddenly, Lu Li grew curious, wanting to know what he had done to earn such hatred.
But the most important thing now was to attract customers! Otherwise, she wouldn’t finish selling today!
Business came first.
Shen Bing was scratching Big 7 cards. Lu Li knew he would definitely scratch out food, so she leaned over to watch.
Startled by her sudden closeness, Shen Bing paused, silently moving the card back a little. Lu Li edged closer again.
She said, “Keep going. I want to see what you can scratch out.”
Her words sounded like a challenge in Shen Bing’s ears. He picked up speed.
He had been enjoying the slow reveal of the surprise beneath the scratch-off coating.
Now, he had to prove himself!
But her head was uncomfortably close, and the faint scent of shampoo drifting over made Shen Bing distracted.
Once he finished, Lu Li eagerly took the card and stuffed it into the lucky cat’s mouth.
Without even looking, she fully trusted Shen Bing’s intuition to find food, after all, his track record was proof!
Before the lucky cat could announce, Lu Li pressed the megaphone to its mouth, amplifying the sound far and wide.
“Congratulations to Mr. Shen Bing for scratching out a hot pot set meal. Redeem now?”
People outside the base froze upon hearing this. Hot pot? What’s hot pot? They didn’t know and went back to killing zombies!
Shen Bing shook his head, “No redemption.”

Lu Li glared at him, “Redeem it for me!”
Her voice was assertive, hands braced on the table, looking down at him with authority.
Shen Bing slightly lifted the brim of his hat, revealing delicate eyebrows and eyes, meeting her gaze and softly saying, “Fine, redeem it then.”
Soon, a table appeared in front of the RV, holding a double-flavored hot pot already boiling, surrounded by an array of ingredients.
A stool was placed by the table. Shen Bing silently moved over, slightly awkward. What now? He didn’t know how to eat it.
Lu Li seemed to notice, dashing out with a pair of chopsticks, patiently instructing, “Put in whatever you want to eat. When it’s cooked, just eat it.”
She first added the harder-to-cook corn and beef balls, then the quick-cooking fatty beef slices.
Within seconds, she scooped out the beef slices and placed them in a bowl in front of Shen Bing. “Eat.”
Shen Bing pulled the brim of his hat fully down, lazily resting it on his shoulder. He inhaled deeply, the aroma of hot pot filling his nose.
His eyes lit up with anticipation as he ate the fatty beef slices first. The meat was tender and smooth, easily eaten whole in one bite.
At the instant it entered his mouth, his eyes sparkled, and the hand holding the bowl trembled slightly, but he quickly composed himself and began eating voraciously.
Lu Li pulled out a small fan from somewhere and placed it in front of the hot pot, determined to let the aroma drift across the entire base.
But that was impossible—it only reached the base entrance. Sure enough, some people were attracted by the scent.
They stood several meters from the table. Shen Bing was completely unfazed, throwing all the ingredients into the pot and picking out whatever he wanted to eat.
More people gathered, unable to resist the hot pot’s tempting aroma, frequently swallowing their saliva.
They all obviously recognized Shen Bing and knew of his fierce reputation. No one dared to ask what it was or where it came from.
Lu Li stood by the window, eagerly awaiting customers but found none scratching. She was puzzled. Could these people really resist even hot pot?
She didn’t believe it. She stepped down from the vehicle, megaphone in hand, standing beside Shen Bing.
One hand casually rested on his shoulder, the other held the megaphone.
Shen Bing’s shoulder dipped slightly at her touch, then he straightened up immediately, his body stiff but determined to focus on enjoying the hot pot.
