Chapter 30: After the Embrace, Where Should My Hands Rest?

Yang Rongrong was no saint. If the two of them were evenly matched, she would much rather face the danger together.
But if the man before her was her teammate, there was no need to say anything else. She could simply hide. One glance was enough to tell that he was the sort who could carry his teammates effortlessly to victory.
Once the door opened, four or five large black shadows filed inside. Their objective was clear: they headed straight for the bed, moving on tiptoe, every motion filled with caution. Clearly, they were well-practiced at this sort of thing.
When they yanked away the raised blanket, two of the shadows clutched desperately at whatever lay beneath it—only to discover that it did not seem to be a human body.
While they were still standing there in confusion, the door slowly swung shut, and a pair of sharp eyes suddenly lit up.
“Bang, bang, bang, bang~~~~~!”
After more than a dozen shots, Yang Jie tossed the bodies out of the room one after another.
Once he closed the door, Yang Jie wore an utterly hopeless expression. Outside, flames soared everywhere, while large numbers of hooded rioters began smashing, looting, and setting fire to everything nearby.
Although this was a motel, it was close to the city center. There was more than just a motel here—there were also gas stations, restaurants, and other small commercial establishments.
The owners coming to open their businesses tomorrow would probably go insane, especially the motel owner.
These places were essential checkpoints for any proper robbery. If you had never robbed a motel, you were not even qualified to be called small fry in the robbery business.
“How many?” Yang Rongrong’s voice came from behind him. Yang Jie did not even turn his head; he had heard her footsteps from far away.
“Five!”
Watching Yang Jie puff away at his cigarette, Yang Rongrong asked for one as well. After lighting it, she took several deep drags, forcefully suppressing the panic in her heart.
“This is supposed to be the great and beautiful America. Why is it nothing like the reports back home? Isn’t this a superpower?”
At that moment, shouts and uproar continued without end outside. Every so often, a gunshot rang out, as though silently answering Yang Rongrong’s question.
“Go to sleep. I’m here. Nothing will happen!”
“I—”
Before Yang Rongrong could finish, Yang Jie cut her off.
“Go to sleep. Listen to me!”
“Oh!”
After hesitating for a moment, Yang Rongrong lay down on the bed. She secretly thought that this man was terribly domineering, yet he also gave her an overwhelming sense of security. As long as he was there, she felt that she could sleep peacefully, even with chaos and looting raging outside.
Before long, the crowd dispersed, leaving behind a scene of utter devastation. Riot police arrived as well. After taking statements, they watched the motel’s security footage and learned of Yang Jie’s identity.
The riot police quickly went back out to suppress the unrest. For the sake of five hooded thugs, offending the police station and the police union’s patron saint would be a crime for which losing their badges would be the least of their troubles.
The next day.

Yang Rongrong’s eyelids twitched. She opened her eyes and looked at the somewhat mottled ceiling. Her memories surged back like a tide, and when she became fully aware of her surroundings, she realized that she was lying in Yang Jie’s arms.
At some point, the bulletproof vest she had been wearing had been removed. This full-figured beauty was now curled up in his embrace like a little cat.
The air was thick with the smell of rust and the acrid stench of gunpowder. She almost did not want to wake up. Nestling deeper into Yang Jie’s arms, she could not help raising her head to look at the man before her.
His solid muscles and sunny features stirred a powerful flutter in the heart of the not-so-young Yang Rongrong.
As she felt the tangible manifestation of his intense masculine hormones, her face instantly flushed crimson.
“Smack!”
Suddenly, Yang Jie gave her a slap on the buttocks and muttered, “If you want to sleep, then sleep properly. Stop squirming around. You’re making things difficult for me.”
Yang Rongrong stared at him in astonishment. “You’re awake?”
“No. That was sleep-talking.”
Yang Rongrong was speechless.
After sleeping a little longer, the two of them got up to brush their teeth and wash their faces. Yang Rongrong’s face was as red as an apple.
They were both adults. Nothing had actually happened between them, but Yang Jie soon remembered a line from a song:
“After embracing, where should I put my hands?”
He had certainly taken every possible advantage.
Yang Jie took out his phone and called Old He, telling him what had happened. Old He nearly jumped out of his skin.
That fellow was still as reckless as ever. Yet there was nothing Old He could say. Yang Jie claimed it had been self-defense.
Self-defense, my ass. He had taken down more than twenty people in a single day—what kind of self-defense was that?
But the local police had accepted his explanation, leaving Old He with nothing to say.
Even Old He felt a chill in his heart. Was it really a good idea to let someone like this return home? But there was no alternative. Yang Jie had indeed been tricked into leaving the country, and he had fought his way to his current position through his own efforts. Now that he wanted to go home, surely that was not too much to ask.
He was still countless times better than those people who desperately wanted to leave the country, waving their insulting banners and spouting racist filth.
“Young man, why are you so bloodthirsty? Couldn’t you have shown a little restraint?”
Yang Jie was speechless. “Uncle He, you’ve been here for five years, haven’t you? There were more than a dozen men on the other side, and they were armed. If I had been even a little slower, you’d be offering funeral candles and paper ingots for me this time next year!”
Old He shook his head. “All right, I understand. I’ve taken care of your passport. You can return home whenever you want.”
“Good. But what about Yang Rongrong? I’m under lockdown here now. I can’t even get out.”

Old He thought for a moment before saying, “They’ve finished filming everything they needed. One of the cameramen was injured, so the entire crew has already returned home. Since you’re preparing to go back anyway, take her with you. Otherwise, it’s far too dangerous for a woman to stay here alone.”
Yang Jie was speechless.
“Damn it, Old He! That isn’t what you said before. I’m trapped here because of her, and now I can’t go anywhere!”
“Does your farm have a helicopter? Just have it come pick you up!”
Yang Jie was speechless again.
“There’s air-traffic control!”
“Then~~~~ good luck. Oh, I have a meeting to attend! That’s all for now. I’ll treat you to a meal when I have time! See? The signal here in beautiful America really is terrible. Hello? Hello? What are you saying? I can’t hear you anymore!”
“Beep, beep, beep, beep~~~~~!”
“Hello? Hello~~~~ Old He, you can’t do this to me!”
“Damn it, are you really going to abandon me once you’ve gotten what you want? You have a meeting, do you? Old He, I’m going to file a complaint against you! Hello? Hello…… Beep, beep, beep, beep!”
Yang Jie stared at his phone with an utterly hopeless expression.
He really had chosen his friends poorly.
Yang Rongrong came out wearing a short-sleeved shirt, wiping her face as she walked.
“What happened?”
Yang Jie immediately told her what had just happened.
Yang Rongrong was completely bewildered. She had not even left yet, so how had the film crew already gone? How could those people behave like this?
“I bet the injury was just an excuse. They must have been frightened by the demonstrations here! They have absolutely no professional ethics!”
Yang Jie rolled his eyes. “How much were they even paid? One wrong move here could cost them their lives. I’d wager things aren’t peaceful outside the consulate either.”
“What am I supposed to do?”
After saying this, Yang Rongrong suddenly looked at Yang Jie pitifully.
Yang Jie shrugged. “Stick with me. I’ll be returning home in a few days anyway.”
“Then… thank you.”
