After calming everyone down, Sun Xuan had still failed to detect anything from the changes in Sun Xiaoyan’s expression, but he decided to proceed according to the original plan.

Turning slightly toward her, he said in a low voice, “Xiaoyan, could I speak with you privately?”

Sun Xiaoyan said nothing. She merely turned and walked toward the interior of the company. The corner of Sun Xuan’s mouth lifted in a mocking smile. He then cast a glance at the middle-aged man, who gave an almost imperceptible nod.

Sun Xuan followed Sun Xiaoyan inside. The moment he stepped through the entrance, he saw that she had not gone far. She was standing quietly beside a lush money tree, toying with her phone as though reading a message.

Outside, he had been too focused on watching the changes in her expression to pay much attention to what she was wearing. Now that they were indoors, however, his gaze was immediately drawn to her.

Sun Xiaoyan was dressed in a pale-blue business suit. Her long hair had been artfully pinned up into a simple bun, revealing her slender neck and giving her the aloof elegance of a white swan.

Her top was a neat suit jacket over a white silk blouse that set off her skin like snow. A matching skirt fell lightly around her legs, outlining her figure with just the right degree of grace.

Standing there, Sun Xiaoyan resembled the beautiful goddess Venus. She possessed the competence of a woman in the workplace without losing any of her feminine softness and allure.

Sunlight streamed through the windows and bathed her in a golden glow. Sun Xuan’s eyes grew hazy as he secretly swore that he would have this woman for himself.

“Sun Xuan, you’re behind what happened today, aren’t you?”

Seeing the unabashed greed in his gaze, Sun Xiaoyan frowned slightly, lowered her phone, and confronted him coldly.

“Uh!”

His private intentions having been exposed, Sun Xuan made no attempt to hide them. He walked up to her and looked her over from head to toe, swallowing audibly.

The gesture made Sun Xiaoyan knit her brows tightly. If she had not wanted to find out what he was planning, she would not have bothered with him at all.

Sensing her disgust, Sun Xuan paid it no mind. Instead, he laughed heartily.

“Xiaoyan, I’m doing this for your own good. Look at how large Grandfather’s Tianhai Pharmaceuticals is. It’s too difficult for a woman to manage it alone…”

He paused to study her expression. Seeing only a cold stare in return, he gritted his teeth and continued, “Why don’t you marry me and transfer the sixty-four percent of the company’s shares in your hands to me? You can live comfortably as a wealthy wife, spending your days shopping and going to beauty salons.”

“Just like they say in movies and novels: you take care of being beautiful, and I’ll take care of making money and supporting the family. Wouldn’t that be wonderful?”

“Hmph!”

Sun Xiaoyan’s anger flared at his words. So that was it. Since she had rejected her father’s arrangement, he had come under the pretext of forcing her into marriage. No wonder he had tried to transfer the company’s funds earlier.

He had probably been plotting against her for a long time. He wanted both her money and her body—what an excellent scheme.

Having made up her mind to show him no further courtesy, Sun Xiaoyan said coldly, “Vice President Sun, are you still dreaming? If you haven’t woken up, go home and go back to sleep. Don’t stand here spouting nonsense.”

“You…”

Sun Xuan narrowed his eyes slightly. Her reaction had been within his expectations. With a cold laugh, he said, “Don’t forget, this is also Dad’s wish. Besides, how are you going to deal with the people outside? There isn’t a single penny left in the company’s accounts. I doubt those people will leave without being paid.”

“That’s none of your concern!” Sun Xiaoyan shot back. “If you hadn’t mentioned it, I might have forgotten. The money you took from the company accounts—I’m giving you until tomorrow to return it. Otherwise, I’ll call the police. That amounts to misappropriation of public funds. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.”

As she spoke, Sun Xiaoyan glanced at the people gathered outside, a strange light flickering across her face.

“As for those outside, if they want money, then give them money.”

With that, Sun Xiaoyan strode away on her long legs, no longer paying Sun Xuan any attention.

Her words left Sun Xuan both startled and uncertain.

“Give them money? Did she borrow it from someone? That seems unlikely. And besides, why does she seem so different today?”

Still perplexed, Sun Xuan followed her outside. He wanted to see how she intended to resolve the situation. He firmly believed that she had no ready cash. As long as the people he had arranged continued to pressure her, he was certain she would be humiliated.

Then he would bring out his adoptive father, Sun Yihai, to continue forcing her into marriage. That way, he would gain both wealth and beauty. He would become the true winner in life.

At the thought of Sun Xiaoyan beneath him, coyly resisting while secretly yielding, Sun Xuan felt a certain part of his body begin to stiffen.

…

Sun Xiaoyan had no idea what filthy thoughts were running through Sun Xuan’s mind. When she reached the outside, she looked toward the crowd waiting for an answer.

Seeing Sun Xiaoyan and Sun Xuan emerge one after the other, everyone gathered around them. The middle-aged man noticed a small gesture from Sun Xuan and immediately understood what he was supposed to do.

Pretending not to know anything, the middle-aged man stepped forward and asked, “Young Master Xuan, how did your discussion with Miss Sun go? Can our payment be settled today?”

Sun Xuan wore a troubled expression and glanced at Sun Xiaoyan.

“Ah, I wanted to help Xiaoyan by settling everyone’s accounts first, but she doesn’t seem to appreciate it. I’m only a nominal vice president of Tianhai, after all. Miss Sun is the one who has the final say in everything.”

Sun Xiaoyan, standing to one side, raised a brow. He was clearly shifting the responsibility onto her, implying that anyone seeking payment should deal with her directly.

The moment the middle-aged man heard Sun Xuan’s words, he understood even more clearly. He exchanged a glance with several people in the crowd, then immediately turned toward Sun Xiaoyan.

“Miss Sun, give us an answer. If you can’t, then don’t blame us brothers for what happens today!”

“Exactly! You’ve dragged this out for so long. If you don’t give us an answer today, we’ll empty the place!”

“That’s right. Enough talk—start moving things!”

The emotions that had finally been calmed were stirred up again by a few troublemakers. Some of the suppliers who knew nothing of the real situation feared they would never recover their payments. After being provoked, they joined in the uproar.

Ding!

At that moment, the elevator doors opened, and two fully equipped police officers stepped out. They saw a large number of people standing in the corridor, all craning their necks and staring through a glass door.

An older officer pushed through the crowd and entered. Seeing so many people making such a commotion, he frowned and asked, “Who called the police? What’s going on here?”

“Officer, I asked someone to call,” Sun Xiaoyan said, raising her hand slightly.

The older officer and a younger officer approached her.

“What happened here?”

When the police arrived, the middle-aged man instinctively drew his neck in and dared not say another word. Even the other troublemakers quieted down considerably, while the rest of the crowd turned their attention toward the officers.
