Volume One, Chapter Ninety-Three: Indiscriminate Slaughter
In the dead of night, a black jeep raced through the city and finally came to a stop beneath a two-story house on the outskirts, where the city gave way to the suburbs.
The door opened, and a man dressed all in black, wrapped from head to toe, stepped down from the vehicle. Clutching his chest with one hand, he stumbled forward and knocked on the door.
The light inside was still on.
Soon, an elderly woman with graying hair opened the door.
"Who is it?" she asked, staring at the strange, unfamiliar man before her.
Seeing the pendant Lin Hao had chosen, Zhuge Yun found it rather beautiful as well, but the price tag was only a little over seven thousand, which left him deeply puzzled.
He sent strength surging through his body, and his dislocated arms snapped back into place with two sharp thuds.
Ji You’s emotions were equally tangled, her thoughts lingering on the notion that her father had even said he wanted to have a second child with her mother.
At first, Zhang Xiao had merely thought he had walked into a recycling depot. Now it seemed more like he had stumbled into an insane asylum.
Xia Zi could be counted among the very few who had never hurt him; on the contrary, she had helped him greatly.
This would lead Li Shimin to define the Lotus Society as a demonic cult, and once that happened, he would surely strike at every member of the society. Then the society’s people, especially the officials, would have no path of retreat left to them; they would have no choice but to follow Zhangsun Minsheng into rebellion.
Women like them, who lived the life of assassins, were born with the air of ice-cold beauties; merely sitting there, they could make others keep their distance.
It was just that he had come asking about Youyou from the moment he arrived, and his obvious intent to speak with her was far too blatant.
Another deafening crash rang out, but the spear did not pierce the giant scorpion’s body as Zhao Lifan had expected. Instead, it was blocked by the scorpion’s yellow-brown carapace, leaving only a white mark upon it, and the scorpion used the force to flip itself upright.
The man’s hand had been squeezed until half of it had turned white and half red. He knew he was never getting his number card back, and he also knew the gap between himself and these people was far too great. He had only come with the intention of having some fun; since he could not play here, he might as well just take the money and leave.
“Big sister, this eggplant pastry is even tastier than the chive one. It’s even more fragrant with meat.” Luo An’s cheeks bulged as he ate, a little grease shining at the corner of his mouth. Luo Zhi wiped it clean with a handkerchief, and Luo An very much enjoyed his sister’s care.
Earlier, though Cool Cloud had also been keeping an eye on Fang Shixun, the urgency had not felt all that pressing.
For demons, lofty human notions such as persuading by reason or winning others over by virtue were useless. They had no concepts like benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom, or trustworthiness in their hearts. In the world of demons, respect and fear were born together; only those who could inspire fear were worthy of respect.
After An Feng and Bai Qiao finished handling those matters, they led the way according to the steps designed by them, walked lightly out, and when they reached the edge and looked back, sure enough, there was not the slightest damage. This brought two advantages: first, it could determine whether anyone had truly come; second, it could determine how many had come.
A faint, hidden flash of anger passed across Yu Aoqing’s lovely face, yet she still smiled and shook her head, graceful and reserved.
Luo Jun looked at Yuan Hua, unable to tell whether Yuan Hua was speaking earnestly or in jest; he simply felt he could not keep up with Yuan Hua’s way of thinking.
They still trusted and admired Fang Shixun’s creative ability, after all he had already produced so many excellent songs in succession.
So Liu Ming had given up certain things. By now, he was getting nearly seven thousand jin of wine lees a day.
"So you’re the one who took down Wang Haicheng and the men he brought with him?" Li Yan asked, her beautiful eyes filled with surprise.
"Ah, ah!" Jiang Wanshan looked flattered and startled all at once. The mighty underground emperor, Long Leopard, was actually bowing and scraping before him, and he could not help but feel a little astonished.
This world was entirely different from Earth. Truthfully, if one were not a martial artist, living on Earth would be far more suitable.
