Chapter Seven: The True and False Heiress, Part 7
“Use points to scan the host’s body.”
“I know it costs a hundred points. I’ll owe it for now. Whatever happens later, I’ll take responsibility.”
Little Red spun anxiously in circles, tears welling in her eyes.
“Hurry up!”
Several people suddenly appeared from the corner, slipping Huai Ying into a sack and carrying her away.
Little Red grew even more frantic: “Quick, exchange for a protective shield to guard the host.”
“I told you, no matter how many points it takes, I’ll give them to you. Just save her quickly!”
“At worst, I’ll go to the black room and accept the punishment.”
Little Red was nearly furious.
But then she heard Huai Ying’s familiar voice by her ear.
“I’m fine.”
Little Red was overwhelmed with relief.
“Boss, you’re really okay? It’s better to use points to check, just to be safe.”
“These people will definitely harm you.”
“They won’t get to me.”
Huai Ying spoke again: “I won’t be hurt. No need to exchange points.”
“I just want to know what they’re planning.”
Huai Ying opened her eyes, her gaze clear and calm.
She didn’t look like she was in any danger.
Only then did Little Red relax.
“Good to hear.”
The two fell silent, caught in a long, heavy quiet.
Until Huai Ying was pulled out of the sack.
“Are you really that afraid of failing the mission?” Huai Ying suddenly asked.
“Even if you get official status, it’s just repeating this kind of life. Do you really want to keep being a system, completing endless tasks?”
“Day after day, year after year, with no end in sight, always worrying about failure and punishment.”
“Besides, you’re not really cut out to be a system.”
Huai Ying left the last sentence unsaid.
She had seen countless strategists and systems.
But none like Little Red.
It was clear Little Red loved life and was a soft-hearted idealist.
Strategists and systems, however, should be people driven by self-interest.
Even if Little Red managed to become official, how long could she hold on?
Could she truly accept living this way forever?
This was the first time Huai Ying had spoken so much to her.
Little Red was somewhat flattered.
But after hearing it, she felt downcast.
She knew this truth all too well.
But what else could she do besides becoming official? Disappear from the world?
“Let’s take it one step at a time.”
Little Red forced a smile.
“You should know what you want most. People can’t stay trapped in indecision forever. If you want to complete the mission, you have to steel yourself and move toward that goal.”
“Not like the last two times, when you chose another path and ended in failure.”
Huai Ying hated people like that most.
Those who didn’t clarify their goals and sank into meaningless hesitation.
“I know,” Little Red muttered quietly.
She had never known what she truly wanted.
School, work, exams—they were just things she was supposed to do.
Now trying to become official was the same.
She just made the choices she was supposed to.
Helping the host during a mission was also a choice she was meant to make.
But she was too conflicted, and in the end, gained nothing.
She sighed deeply.
After a long while, she looked up at Huai Ying again.
A sudden, relieved smile curved her lips.
“Boss, you’ve told me so much—are you trying to help me finish the mission?”
“Not really,” Huai Ying answered firmly, without hesitation.
Little Red’s face immediately crumpled.
“Boss, you’re so cruel.”
“I’m not you. I won’t waver in my decisions because of others.”
After Huai Ying was thrown into a room, everyone else left.
She stood up and surveyed her surroundings.
It was a small room.
Besides the bed, there was only a tiny jar on the bedside.
Huai Ying approached and looked inside, her expression darkening.
A small hatch was opened on the door, and a pair of hands pushed a boxed meal inside.
“Looks like whoever caught you wants you to eat, drink, and sleep all in this tiny room,” Little Red remarked.
“Who knows what they want to do.”
Huai Ying stepped onto the bed, tiptoed over, and sneered disdainfully, yanking down the surveillance camera.
Then she said, “I told you so much because there’s no challenge—too boring.”
“What do you mean?” Little Red was puzzled.
“I want to complete the mission my own way, stubbornly. You can calculate against me, use tools to force me, even engage in a battle of wits. Not like now—I calculate against you and it feels pointless.”
Huai Ying’s light words fell into Little Red’s ears.
She felt like crying but couldn’t.
“Boss, can you not be so blunt? It hurts too much.”
“Just telling the truth.”
Huai Ying lay back down on the bed and fell asleep.
She was truly tired.
Meanwhile, on the other side, after failing to observe any reaction from Huai Ying, the team rushed to the room.
They opened the door and found her sound asleep.
Standing by the bed, they were momentarily speechless.
“Is she really asleep?”
“Based on the detection data, yes.”
“She looks only about seventeen or eighteen. This reaction is strange.”
“That just means she’s exactly who we’re looking for.”
“Take her away.”
Huai Ying was lifted and taken away.
Little Red had been worried but relaxed when she thought of Huai Ying’s abilities.
She wasn’t about to let anything happen to her.
Until Huai Ying was brought into the laboratory.
A group of people in white coats strapped various monitoring devices onto her.
Electric shocks, drug injections, heart stimulation, data recording...
Little Red’s scalp tingled and she let out a scream.
“Boss, wake up! These people want to hurt you!”
But no matter what, Huai Ying kept sleeping soundly.
“Wait, does she have no sense of pain? Why is she not reacting at all?”
“If the data didn’t show her breathing and heartbeat are normal, I’d think she was dead.”
“In that case, continue.”
“But she’s already at the human limit.”
“Look carefully—does she look like she’s at her limit?”
As they argued, Huai Ying turned over and continued sleeping.
A few crows seemed to fly overhead.
Is she really a normal person?
“She’s basically a holy body for experiments. Then let’s keep going.”
The group immediately decided to continue testing.
For a full eight hours, they exhausted every effort.
They tried every drug.
Even electric shocks to the heart—Huai Ying showed no response.
She simply remained asleep.
This was truly a monster!
Excitement flickered in their eyes.
This was good news for them!
“Is that all you’ve got?”
Huai Ying opened her eyes, leisurely scrutinizing them.
“Boring!”
The methods of the galactic mad scientists were far more extensive.
These people hadn’t even truly harmed her body.
No organ removals, no grafting of blood vessels or nerves like others.
“Her brain nerves are finally active—hundreds of times more than a normal person.”
The data recorder grew excited.
“This is a miracle!”
“More precisely, her very existence is a miracle.”
