Chapter 13: Mental Strength Overdrawn Once More
Page 1/3
Zhang Xinrou was puzzled, but Jiang Nanxing noticed the clue and led Zhang Xinrou to the other side of the fence.
A zombie had exploded—not a joke, it really exploded.
Shattered limbs flew beyond the fence, and sticky eyeballs clung to the bars. Zhang Xinrou couldn’t hold back her nausea and vomiting, scrambling away from the fence.
“Tang Miao, Tang Miao, stop planting! A zombie just burst open!”
Tang Miao chuckled, her spiritual energy continuously flowing through her hands. “Survival of the fittest; only the strong deserve to be my farm workers.”
“Bang!”
“Bang bang!”
“Clang bang bang!”
“Bang bang bang bang...”
Jiang Nanxing remained calm as he tossed in another large pumpkin, letting out a low growl.
“Grr.” It was New Year.
Explosions echoed one after another. Zhang Xinrou was so exhausted from vomiting she felt utterly drained. She deeply realized that being a zombie breeder was no easy task.
She lost track of time, but finally, the little digger had dug a pit just big enough to bury itself, slowly filling it with water.
As for Tang Miao? She was a bit tired and decided to take a nap before continuing to plant.
The little digger was the first to notice Tang Miao’s unusual state. “Abba abba!” Mama!
It jumped up and dashed toward Zhang Xinrou, “Abba abba abba!” Auntie, please save Mama!
Zhang Xinrou barely recovered, pale-faced, running toward the unresponsive Tang Miao, all the while scooping up the little digger charging at her.
Jiang Nanxing had no energy to deal with the zombies anymore and moved closer to Tang Miao.
“Grr grr.” What to do?
“Grr grr.” What to do?
“Grr...”
Zhang Xinrou gritted her teeth and slapped Jiang Nanxing’s face. “Stop growling!”
The little digger, about to babble, quietly covered its mouth.
Right now, only Auntie could save Mama; it was better not to make Auntie angry.
Thinking this, the little digger turned and lay on Zhang Xinrou’s shoulder, punching its older brother’s arm.
Don’t make Auntie angry, or Mama will just snap and die!
Zhang Xinrou knew Jiang Nanxing was anxious, but he needed to hold back.
She couldn’t find anything to cool Tang Miao down, and there was no way to light a fire to keep warm.
All the supplies had been stored away by Tang Miao in her spatial storage; Zhang Xinrou simply couldn’t get to them!
As she thought this, the surrounding temperature rose steadily. Looking closely, smoke began to curl from Tang Miao’s head, thin wisps curling upward.

Zhang Xinrou’s vision blurred; she saw small flames flickering on Tang Miao’s body.
The little digger jolted and immediately leaped onto Tang Miao, sitting right on the flames.
“Abba abba!” It’s on fire! It’s on fire!
Damn! It really caught fire!
Zhang Xinrou tried to scoop water from the small pond to douse the flames, but it had no effect.
Without hesitation, she shoved Tang Miao into the small pool, but it was too tiny—it could only submerge Tang Miao’s backside and half her waist.
“Dig the pit bigger! You two, dig faster!”
The bigger the pit, the more water it could hold to cool Tang Miao down.
Jiang Nanxing and the little digger prepared to act.
Sizzle—
The water in the pond evaporated instantly.
The flames grew larger, quickly burning through Tang Miao’s clothes, engulfing her entire body in fire.
Zhang Xinrou took a deep breath and went to the truck, pulling out a packet of barbecue seasoning.
She grabbed an eggplant Tang Miao had planted earlier, tore it open, poured the seasoning inside, and placed it on Tang Miao.
At this point, it was a desperate measure; Zhang Xinrou had a strong feeling Tang Miao would be fine.
Jiang Nanxing and the little digger grew anxious.
“Abba abba abba!” Auntie, save Mama!
“Grr grr!” Save her, please!
Soon, a fragrant aroma of spice wafted from Tang Miao’s body. When it seemed just right, Zhang Xinrou used a steel pipe to pull the eggplant off Tang Miao.
The eggplant was charred on the outside and tender inside, seasoned perfectly with the barbecue spice—delicious!
Jiang Nanxing and the little digger instinctively swallowed, and even the zombies in the taming zone stirred excitedly.
“Grr!” Smells good!
“Grr!” Smells good!
The little digger couldn’t resist and started eating immediately, while Jiang Nanxing looked on longingly.
“Tastes good?”
The little digger nodded.
“Want me to grill more? Maybe some pumpkin?”
Jiang Nanxing nodded emphatically, “Grr!” Yes!
“Stop growling; only Tang Miao understands what you’re saying.”
Zhang Xinrou happily grilled away, even if the flames were too high and some food got burnt, Jiang Nanxing and the little digger didn’t mind.

After a short while, the fire died down, and Tang Miao’s body temperature began to drop.
Seeing this, Zhang Xinrou ran to the driver’s seat, grabbed a bottle of mineral water, and placed it on Tang Miao. Soon, it froze into ice.
She took the ice off and had the little digger smash it into pieces, then sprinkled seasoning on them and tasted a piece.
Wow, no wonder people invented cold dishes with ice cubes—the texture had a unique flavor.
When Tang Miao woke up again, she was soaking in the cool water of the pond.
Jiang Nanxing and the little digger had worked together to dig a human-shaped pool, just big enough to hold the naked Tang Miao.
A wet blanket pressed on her, making breathing slightly difficult. Without looking, Tang Miao knew her clothes were burned off.
After changing clothes, her stomach growled in hunger. Looking up, it seemed to be afternoon already.
The little digger, eager to dig, jumped into Tang Miao’s arms, covered in mud.
Jiang Nanxing sat beside Tang Miao and wiped the little digger’s hands with a towel. “Grr.” Dirty.
They might soil Tang Miao’s clothes again.
“Tang Miao, do you feel anything different?” Zhang Xinrou asked eagerly. “Has your wood spirit root upgraded?”
Zhang Xinrou pondered for a long time. Maybe Tang Miao wasn’t drained of spiritual power but had upgraded her spirit root? Otherwise, why would she have survived two close calls?
Tang Miao took out two buckets of instant noodles, two eggs, and two sausages from her spatial storage.
She sighed helplessly, “It’s spiritual energy, not spiritual power, and I don’t have any spirit roots.”
Zhang Xinrou began opening a bucket of noodles. She was starving too, but all the supplies were stored in Tang Miao’s space, so she had to wait for Tang Miao to wake.
“Alright, alright, spiritual energy. Now that you’ve upgraded, can you control plants to help us work?”
Tang Miao thought for two seconds. Having plants help meant controlling them, which still consumed her spiritual energy; she’d be the one doing the work.
After considering this, Tang Miao shook her head vigorously.
After eating and drinking, Tang Miao went to check on the crops. As she approached, the zombies grew restless, low growls filling the air.
They were all clamoring for food.
The explosion site in the zombie taming zone was once chaotic, but now the fence was spotless, and the ground was free of corpse fragments.
Tang Miao nodded in relief. The farm’s self-cleaning system was quite effective.
Zhang Xinrou opened a small notebook and reported her observations to Tang Miao.
“It’s July 27, 2025, 3:47 PM—the 18th day since the apocalypse began. There are 108 zombies left, and 11 of them seem somewhat intelligent.”
“Their former identities include university students, security guards, and cafeteria workers: 8 students, 2 guards, and 1 dorm supervisor. I had Jiang Nanxing mark them with hemp ropes.”
Tang Miao nodded, a plan forming in her mind.
