Chapter Eighty-Eight: Sisters Reunited
“Senior Brother Xu, wait for me!” Gu Weiyu called out helplessly from behind.
Xu Weizhou paused, seeming somewhat unaccustomed, and slowed his steps, strolling ahead.
Gu Weiyu hurried to catch up. Just as she was about to speak, an arrogant voice erupted from the nearby woods: “Hey, woman! Hand it over to your big brother already!”
She glanced toward the source of the sound and saw a young woman in a green robe, surrounded by three people who had her boxed in.
They had just entered the secret realm—how could there already be someone robbing others?
Xu Weizhou seemed not to notice and kept walking forward. Gu Weiyu was not one to meddle unnecessarily and wasn’t inclined to interfere.
“Move aside!”
A cold, clear female voice rang out. Just as Gu Weiyu was about to leave, she halted mid-step.
This voice…
There was something strangely familiar about it as it reached Gu Weiyu’s ears.
She couldn’t help but look again at the girl in green. The more she looked, the more familiar the figure seemed.
But that was impossible. This was the Wukong Secret Realm, deep in the southwest of the Wukong World, while Qin Prefecture was far to the north—completely unrelated places.
A thought flashed through Gu Weiyu’s mind. She turned on her heel and strode toward the woods, shouting, “You scoundrels! Is bullying a woman all you’re capable of?”
As her voice rang out, the girl in green, who had her back to Gu Weiyu, stiffened, turning around in disbelief.
Gu Weiyu, who’d been watching her closely, caught the shock in her eyes—eyes as clear as glazed glass.
Though the girl’s face was hidden behind a fierce-looking mask, Gu Weiyu recognized her instantly.
It was her fourth sister! It really was Gu Weilan!
Surrounding Gu Weilan were three youths in mismatched attire, clearly a hastily formed team.
Seeing Gu Weiyu in the robes of a disciple of the Myriad Sword Sect, their eyes flickered with wariness. “This has nothing to do with you. Stay out of it!”
Gu Weiyu had no time to wonder what her sister was doing here; her gaze turned sharp as she looked at the three. “Today, I’m making it my business!”
“You—” The three were so riled by her assertiveness they nearly toppled over.
“I found those things first. If you won’t leave, don’t blame me for being harsh!” Gu Weilan’s voice was icy as she drew her sword in a flash, pointing it at them.
A surge of sword energy burst from her, pressing toward her opponents.
Gu Weiyu also drew her weapon, clearly ready to fight at her sister’s side.
When Xu Weizhou noticed Gu Weiyu hadn’t followed, he turned and entered the forest as well.
Seeing yet another Myriad Sword Sect disciple, the three youths’ faces twisted with resentment. “Fine, you just wait!”
Leaving behind their threats, they turned and left the woods.
“Fourth Sister—” As soon as they were gone, Gu Weiyu could no longer hold back and called out. She had so many questions in her heart.
Gu Weilan shot a cool glance at Xu Weizhou and said quietly, “This isn’t the place to talk. Let’s leave here first.”
Gu Weiyu looked toward Xu Weizhou, gesturing to Gu Weilan as she introduced, “Senior Brother Xu, this is my fourth sister.”
A glint flickered in Xu Weizhou’s eyes—so the two of them were sisters.
He looked between the two, nodded at Gu Weilan, and took the lead in walking away.
Gu Weiyu and Gu Weilan exchanged a glance and followed.
“Fourth Sister, just now, how did you…” Gu Weiyu glanced at Xu Weizhou, lowered her voice, and asked.
Gu Weilan’s lips curled in a mocking smile. “I’d just arrived and found three Dragon Marrow Grasses over a hundred years old. As I dealt with a few nearby first-rank spirit beasts, those three showed up…”
Dragon Marrow Grass? That was an extremely rare spiritual herb in the outside world—finding even one was a stroke of incredible luck.
And Gu Weilan had found three at once! What luck!
But those three were truly in the wrong to try to steal from her sister!
“What? If I’d known, we should’ve just beaten them up!” Gu Weiyu fumed, grinding her teeth. Those three were nothing but robbers!
They must’ve heard the commotion as Fourth Sister fought the beasts, hidden and watching, then tried to swoop in for the spoils.
Shameless! She’d never seen such brazen people!
“They only dared because I was alone and a rogue cultivator,” Gu Weilan said with a faint smile.
“Fourth Sister…” Gu Weiyu reached out, taking her hand. In the past half year, her sister must have suffered greatly.
A warmth bloomed in Gu Weilan’s heart as she squeezed Gu Weiyu’s hand in return and turned to look at her. “Twelfth Sister, I’m fine.”
“Fourth Sister, why don’t you come with me to the Myriad Sword Sect after we leave the secret realm?” Gu Weiyu’s eyes lit up. “Our master and the others are wonderful!”
“I…” Gu Weilan was about to reply when Xu Weizhou suddenly stopped walking.
At that moment, several fruits shot toward them with a whoosh, aiming straight for their faces.
The three of them immediately activated their Gale Steps, nimbly dodging the onslaught. “Wow, why are there so many first-rank spirit monkeys here?” Gu Weiyu exclaimed.
With the fruits came a large troop of monkeys, their fur a brilliant golden yellow. The largest barely reached an adult’s waist, the smallest only up to the knee.
Some monkeys swung on trees ahead, some made faces at them, baring their teeth, and others began picking more fruit, clearly preparing for another round of assault.
“Shall we try another direction?” Xu Weizhou turned to the sisters.
Though these monkeys didn’t seem especially powerful, they could be quite troublesome.
“I’ve heard that in monkey colonies, there’s usually Monkey Wine,” Gu Weilan remarked coolly.
Monkey Wine referred to a brew made when spirit monkeys collected various spiritual fruits and stored them in tree hollows, where the fruits naturally fermented over winter without rotting.
The Monkey Wine from the Wukong Secret Realm, brewed from the realm’s spirit fruits, would be a rare treasure if they could take some out.
Xu Weizhou’s eyes flickered at this and he glanced at Gu Weilan.
“Fourth Sister, do you want to try for some Monkey Wine?” Gu Weiyu asked, knowing how precious it was.
“Since we’ve come across it, why not seize the opportunity?” Gu Weilan replied, meeting Xu Weizhou’s gaze. “What do you think, Daoist Xu?”
“I’m fine with anything,” Xu Weizhou said casually. They’d entered the secret realm to collect various spiritual items, after all.
Every participant had their own collection tasks, and any surplus could be exchanged for sect contribution points.
“All right, let’s pay the monkeys a visit today!” Gu Weiyu said with a bright smile.
The monkeys in the trees seemed quite intelligent. As if understanding their words, they resumed their barrage of fruit attacks.
“Let’s go!” Xu Weizhou, wearing his flying boots, darted nimbly into the dense woods where the monkeys gathered.
