The hospital was equipped with numerous facilities, yet there was only one consultation room on the entire floor, exactly as the nurse had mentioned. Mu Xinning gently knocked on the door and entered. Inside sat a man wearing a white lab coat.

For a moment, she was stunned upon seeing his face, but she quickly regained her composure. The man sat upright at the desk, his hair pure white like frost and snow, shimmering with a cold radiance under the light.

His narrow eyes gleamed with a mysterious purple hue, calm yet exuding an unapproachable aloofness. His well-built physique was perfectly outlined by the white coat, the firm chest radiating vibrant strength.

His posture was impeccable, the sharp lines of his face carrying a certain frostiness and handsome elegance. Beneath his high nose bridge, his thin lips were tightly pressed, giving off an aura of strict professionalism.

Though sitting quietly, an invisible aura emanated from him, making one hesitant to approach lightly.

Mu Xinning had to admit, in her two lifetimes, this was the first time she had encountered such a strikingly handsome NPC.

No sooner had she stepped into the room than the door of the consultation room swiftly closed automatically.

The man slowly lifted his head and said in a steady, magnetic voice, “Sit down.”

His gaze indicated the chair beside him. Mu Xinning responded with ventriloquism and then sat down.

Since stepping onto this floor, Jin had felt something was off—until he saw this man.

“...Why? Why do I sense a familiar aura from this fellow...” An indescribable strangeness stirred within him.

“What’s wrong?” she heard Jin muttering inside her mind, so she asked.

Before Jin could respond, the man's voice pulled her back to reality: “Stretch out your hand.”

The man’s presence was strong, so Mu Xinning obediently extended her injured left hand before him.

His gaze fell on the bleeding wound on her left forearm; his narrow purple eyes darkened slightly.

The wound was shallow, yet the injured person was exquisitely delicate.

She wasn’t meant to be hurt—he didn’t know why he thought that.

Then, the drawer beside him automatically slid open. He bent down and smoothly retrieved a bottle of iodine, a jar of cotton balls, sterile gauze, and tweezers, all with precise, economical movements.

Mu Xinning watched his knobby fingers grasp the tweezers, pick up a cotton ball dipped in iodine. As the cool cotton just touched the edge of her wound, she instinctively retracted her hand.

“Don’t move.” His other hand gently pressed her wrist. His voice remained calm, magnetic, yet carried an undeniable authority.

The iodine caused a slight sting as it touched the wound. She bit her lower lip but noticed his motions suddenly soften; the tweezers carefully avoided the most painful spots, meticulously cleaning the bloodstains bit by bit.

“Hiss...” As the blood was wiped away, fresh blood oozed out. She curled her other arm tighter, as if to cradle a doll.

The man glanced at her face, his gaze lingering briefly.

This girl... her expression had not changed since earlier, except when in pain, her brow would crease slightly.

He then took a small bottle of clear medicine and a cotton swab from the drawer, carefully applying the liquid to her wound.

The medicine felt cool against the skin, instantly reducing the sting significantly.

While tending to her wound, Mu Xinning noticed the name tag pinned to his coat.

Mo Yichen.

He then grabbed sterile gauze, gently covering the wound and securing it with tape. The gauze was wrapped neither too tight nor too loose, just enough to stop the bleeding without causing pain.

The entire process took only a few minutes; his movements were precise and efficient. When he withdrew his hand, his fingertips accidentally brushed her palm, and his expression darkened.

He tossed the used cotton ball into the trash and met her gaze again with his purple eyes. “It’s done. Remember not to get the wound wet.”

Mu Xinning clenched her bandaged hand, about to thank him, when Jin suddenly hissed sharply in her mind, “No mistake! He possesses the missing power of mine!”

Mo Yichen was bent over, filling out the medical chart the nurse had handed her earlier. Mu Xinning was momentarily stunned by Jin’s words.

“Th-thank you...” For some reason, in that brief moment of distraction, she spoke aloud without ventriloquism; her sweet, soft voice slipped out naturally.

Mo Yichen paused mid-pen stroke, glanced at her, his purple eyes unreadable, then simply nodded lightly and returned to filling out the chart.

When he reached the line for hospital stay duration, he initially intended to write “1 day,” but for some reason, he added an extra stroke, changing it to “7” days.

He set down the pen and pushed the chart toward her. “Sign here. Your ward is 401.”

She quickly grabbed a black pen. Just as she signed her name, the consultation room door automatically opened, silently signaling that she could leave.

“Come for dressing changes at 8 a.m. tomorrow. Don’t be late.” Mo Yichen stood up, the white coat outlining his broad shoulders and narrow waist, his imposing presence intensified.

He showed no intention of escorting her, merely standing by the desk, his purple eyes calmly watching her.

Mu Xinning hurried to her feet. “Understood.” She turned toward the door, and just as her hand touched the handle, a voice came from behind.

His voice was lower than before, tinged with a subtle strangeness. “Your wound... what caused it?”

Mu Xinning immediately decided to pretend not to hear and quickly pushed the door open.

After all, if I’m not embarrassed, then it’s others who are!

Mo Yichen: “...”

The door closed slowly behind her, cutting off that cold gaze. Leaning against the chilly corridor wall, Mu Xinning exhaled deeply.

She didn’t linger but found her ward, entered, and promptly locked the door.

Inside the consultation room, Mo Yichen stared at the closed door, his purple eyes dimming. He raised a hand to rub the fingertips that had just brushed her palm.

He picked up the medical chart and looked at the three characters of her name. A complex light flickered in his eyes.

...

“That was terrifying! That man’s aura of pressure was overwhelming!” Finally having some privacy, she immediately vented to Jin in her mind.

It had made her nervous!

When she was alone with him in the room, she hadn’t dared to relax for a single moment, leaving her mentally drained now.

She then lay down on the hospital bed to rest.

Unexpectedly, Jin dropped a bombshell: “There’s nothing strange about it, for this fellow is the embodiment of the power I’m missing. You could say... he’s my doppelgänger.”

Page 3/3

“What?!” Mu Xinning’s eyes widened.

A doppelgänger of missing power? So that means...

“Are you incomplete?” Given what she knew of Jin, he was already quite strong.

“I don’t know where I came from. Since gaining memory, my mind has held only partial self-awareness and the instinct to hunt.”

He was unsure of his origins or if others like him existed. He could only act based on his limited memory. Perhaps one day, he would encounter his kind.

Alien creatures of different species devour each other; even if all are aliens, without being kin, they are enemies.

Survival of the fittest.

Yet, in all his wandering, he had never seen a tentacled alien identical to himself.

Excluding the low-level octopus species in the human world, of course. Such creatures were merely food, unworthy of comparison with alien beings!

“My self-awareness is that of an evil god, a top predator in the food chain. Also, I am still incomplete, bearing some kind of seal.”

“So... you said Mo Yichen is your doppelgänger, but that’s a living human?” Mu Xinning found it hard to believe.

A doppelgänger could take human form, but Jin had never transformed into a human before. She wondered if he looked down on the human form.

“To restore completeness, I must absorb those missing powers. My strength is great; thus, even a small portion can take human form.”

Jin added, “Due to the seal, my original body cannot transform. But these separated missing powers can.”

Because the powers separated from the main body are not bound by the seal.

So that’s how it is...

Mu Xinning nodded gently but thought...

He intends to absorb Mo Yichen?

“Then why didn’t you act just now?”

She believed that given Jin’s nature, he would have acted immediately if able.

“That’s because—”

Before he finished, the ward door opened on its own.

So these prison-like locks are just for show?!

Mu Xinning felt the locks here were truly unreliable.

Mo Yichen entered with steady steps, his voice carrying an undeniable force that slowly spread through the silent space.

“Now, can you answer my question from earlier?”
