Mind-affecting spells, a rather obscure branch of illusion magic, have the power to interfere with and manipulate a target’s inner emotions. Among these, the most frequently used is the charm spell, capable of persuading others, followed by the rage spell, which incites conflict. Spells like calmness, which evoke positive emotions, are typically cast by spellcasters on themselves or their allies to quickly suppress anger.

Since those who become angry can simply “hold it in” themselves, very few mage NPCs bother to learn such spells.

However, among players, everyone knows and masters them.

The reason is simple: during dungeon runs, if a clumsy teammate keeps making mistakes and causes repeated team wipes, the rest will bombard him relentlessly with calmness spells...

Under the strong control of the calmness spell, though the true dragon’s fury had not completely subsided, Dia managed to regain a shred of sanity, enough to communicate haltingly.

Suppressing the overwhelming rage within her chest, she shouted with hatred, “Get off my back!”

“That’s not the point,” Raine said casually, changing the subject. “Don’t you realize you’ve become a dragon?”

“I’ll burn you to ashes!” Dia growled through gritted teeth.

“You want to save Dragon Valley City, don’t you?” Raine chuckled. “Then burn it.”

“Come on! Burn those Wights to death!”

He yanked Dia’s hair hard, forcing her to turn her gaze toward the Wight Overlord perched on the cliff.

Enraged beyond measure, Dia spread her dragon wings and dove at full speed, opening her jaws to unleash a scorching torrent of dragonfire!

The Wight Overlord shrieked in unbearable agony as the terrifying heat seared its entire body. It plummeted from the cliff like a blazing meteor, crashing through numerous houses along the way before plunging into the waters of the Sacred River, desperately trying to extinguish the dragonfire clinging to its form.

Dia pursued relentlessly from above, releasing a second blast of dragonfire into the river, instantly raising dense clouds of steam.

The Wight Overlord thrashed wildly in the boiling water; its rotting flesh curled, scorched, and charred, peeling swiftly from its skeleton.

In the end, it was boiled alive and killed in the Sacred River.

“Effortless! As expected of me!” Raine laughed triumphantly, gazing at the fallen Wight Overlord.

This is what it means to seek fortune in peril! Dia awakened as the Dragon’s Daughter without being entangled by meddlesome shamans or nobles. Who else in this world could accomplish such a feat besides me?

---

Dia seethed with fury as she listened to the laughter of the dragon knight on her back, nearly losing her mind. Thankfully, the calmness spell was still in effect. Remembering her mission to save the civilians, she circled Dragon Valley City’s skies, burning and killing every cockroach-like Wight she could see.

In the process, the surrounding houses were also reduced to ashes.

——

By afternoon, a heavy rain had fallen.

The burning houses gradually died down, revealing charred ruins.

The streets and alleys were littered with corpses, bloodstains, and embers. The surviving lizardfolk refugees wandered aimlessly, eyes vacant, staggering toward the town square.

The newly awakened Dragon’s Daughter announced she would deliver a speech at the center of the square.

Now restored to human form, Dia looked at the homeless lizardfolk refugees surrounding her and was suddenly overwhelmed by intense guilt and unease.

Most casualties were caused by the Wights, but the burning of houses was entirely due to her dragonfire breath—after all, cockroach-like Wights do not vandalize homes.

If the refugees voiced their accusations, she might have felt better. Yet, they all wore a numb expression that seemed to say, “Since she is the Dragon’s Daughter, what can be done?” This only deepened Dia’s sadness to the point of tears.

“Quick, remind me what to say!” she whispered, choking back tears as she tugged Raine’s sleeve.

“Do I really have to teach you that?” Raine sighed in exasperation, stepping forward to loudly address the refugees:

“Doom is upon us. The True Dragon has appeared! Dragon Valley City is doomed. If you stay here, death is your only path!”

“No delays. We depart today. Everyone must head to Dragon Peak City! Spread the word of the Wight invasion and await further instructions from the Dragon’s Daughter!”

“Go!”

Sparse murmurs arose among the refugees, a jumble of voices barely distinguishable, but their sentiments were clear—pledges of eternal loyalty to the Dragon’s Daughter.

Elrina stood silently nearby with a constant smile, quietly calculating her next moves.

The crisis in Dragon Valley City was temporarily over. The nobles had all been assassinated by the Darkscale assassins of the Shaman Order. The two High Shamans had perished as well. The High Priest had been devoured by cockroach-like Wights during his escape, and the Grand Priest, the mastermind behind it all, was boiled alive by dragonfire in the river.

The remaining lower-ranking shamans and guards, bereft of their original leaders, naturally obeyed the commands of the Dragon’s Daughter Dia, effectively placing the city under Raine’s indirect control.

The entire Dragon Valley City had fallen into the hands of this necromancer.

---

“Is your next target Dragon Peak City? One day, this inherently evil necromancer will…”

“I need to go home first,” Raine suddenly said.

“Home?” Dia was stunned for a long moment before realizing Raine meant returning to the Human Empire. “But what about the refugees… didn’t you order them to go to Dragon Peak City?”

“After the Wight army conquered Dragon Valley City, their next target will surely be Dragon Peak City! Are we just going to abandon it? Or are you going to use my servitude as your maid as a bargaining chip again…”

“Shut up.” Raine rubbed his temples, annoyed. “Wights can’t swim, and next month is the rainy season. Didn’t you know?”

“Oh!” Dia finally understood.

Every year from June to October, the Rainforest Peninsula experiences its monsoon season. Moist monsoon winds from the southeastern cerulean sea sweep over the peninsula, bringing continuous widespread rainfall.

The raging river that cuts through the peninsula swells during the rainy season. Most tributaries are completely submerged, and two-thirds of the basin becomes an oceanic expanse, swallowing nearly all the lizardfolk villages and towns.

These lizardfolk migrate to higher mountain altitudes before the rains to avoid flooding. Since Wights cannot swim, it means at least during the rainy season, they cannot cross the flooded expanses to attack Dragon Peak City, which is built in the mountains.

Fantastic! Temporary salvation, hurrah!

“I’ll take them to Dragon Peak City then…” Dia began, only to be brusquely interrupted by Raine:

“What are you talking about? Your maid contract isn’t over yet; you need to stay by my side and serve me. Or are you planning to break the contract?”

The evil necromancer’s cold, threatening gaze left Dia no choice but to pout in frustration and reluctantly say:

“Aren’t you a human noble? When you go home, you’ll have plenty of young and beautiful maids to serve you. Why do you insist on having me as your personal maid? Besides, I am the True Dragon’s Daughter…”

“Precisely because you are the True Dragon’s Daughter, you have collectible value to me as a personal maid,” Raine said impatiently, waving a dismissive hand. “Elrina, from now on, you will be my housekeeper and head maid.”

“I want you to train Dia in elven court etiquette to become a qualified noble’s maid! Grammar, poetry, music, logic, rhetoric, art appreciation… arrange all the courses for her!”

“In three months, I want a perfect personal maid!”
