Chapter 1: Where Dreams Begin
Buzz——!
Across the azure surface of the sea, a medium-sized vessel edged slowly toward the port, its long whistle echoing. Though the city on the coast was bustling, and the docks teemed with excitement, the tourists aboard the ship paid little mind to the scenery; instead, their attention was riveted on the deck.
There, a Pokémon battle had reached its climax. The two contending Pokémon were Ralts and a violet Rattata, their trainers a handsome young man in his twenties and a middle-aged gentleman in a tailored suit. The fierce combat had drained Rattata’s stamina rapidly; it was clearly on the losing end, unable even to touch Ralts. Anxiety seized the middle-aged man, prompting him to shout, “Rattata, close the distance and use Tackle!”
Rattata, responding, seized the moment, accelerating on all fours and charging at Ralts, head lowered for a ram. But just as it was about to strike, Ralts suddenly split into several illusions—each a mirage of itself.
Rattata, unable to halt, dashed straight through one of the phantoms. It was Double Team!
On the sidelines, seeing Rattata frozen in confusion, Xia You knew it was time to end the match.
“Ralts, use Psychic!”
As his words faded, all of Ralts’ illusions raised their arms in unison. In the next instant, Rattata was engulfed in a strange light and lifted into the air. No matter how desperately it struggled, it could not break free from Psychic’s grip. With a sweeping gesture from Ralts, Rattata was hurled backward, crashing into the railing with a resounding thud.
This time, it could hold out no longer, collapsing weakly to the deck.
The crew member acting as referee glanced at Rattata, shook his head, and raised his right hand, declaring loudly, “Rattata has lost the ability to battle. Ralts is victorious!”
As the spectators applauded the thrilling duel, many marveled aloud. One fiery young woman even flashed Xia You a teasing whistle.
“Wow, that’s seven victories in a row, isn’t it?”
“Exactly, and this Ralts barely took any damage—amazing!”
Xia You stepped forward, affectionately ruffling Ralts’ head, then approached the middle-aged man.

The two shook hands lightly. The middle-aged man praised, “Your Ralts is excellently trained. I concede this battle wholeheartedly.”
“Your Rattata is impressive as well.” Xia You, respectful even in victory, returned the compliment. “I hope we meet again someday.”
As the man withdrew, the tourists glanced around, wondering who would next challenge the handsome young trainer. Just as several seemed eager, Xia You stepped back.
“Sorry, everyone, we’ve arrived at our destination—it’s time to disembark!”
The crowd turned hastily, only then realizing the ship had docked without their notice.
…
Warm, radiant sunlight bathed the city overhead. Waves, urged by the ceaseless push of the sea, tirelessly washed the narrow breakwater. Gazing toward the horizon, the blue stretched endlessly, sky and sea merging as one—a giant mirror to the world.
The moist, salty breeze caressed the skin, bringing a comfort beyond words.
This was one of Kanto’s major seaports, a southern city basking in the golden glow of sunset—Vermilion City.
Stepping from the cabin onto this land, Xia You could not suppress his joy.
Ash, Misty, Brock, Pikachu, Professor Oak, the Kanto region, the Indigo League—since childhood in his previous life, these had formed countless memories for him.
Though several months had passed since his arrival in the world of Pokémon, the experience remained surreal every time he recalled it.
At his feet, sensing Xia You’s mood, Ralts let out a gentle, happy cry.
Xia You glanced at Ralts and smiled. “Alright, since we’re now in Kanto, before challenging the Indigo League, we should register for qualification at the Pokémon Center.”
Leaving the port, Xia You took out his phone, opened the map, and followed the path toward the Pokémon Center.
Along the way, trainers and their Pokémon crisscrossed the city. Throughout the world, these Pokémon—whether for entertainment, food, delivery, or public safety—had become indispensable companions, fully integrated into daily life.
Yet, seeing Ralts by Xia You’s side, many cast curious glances.
Its green hair, reminiscent of a halved cabbage, concealed most of its face, while its white body looked as if clad in oversized pants.

As a non-native Kanto Pokémon, Ralts naturally drew attention; it was rare even in other regions.
Entering the city center, Xia You passed several street corners and soon arrived at the Pokémon Center.
Behind the counter, Nurse Joy, with her crimson hair and uniform, was organizing paperwork. Seeing Xia You, she greeted him with a friendly smile.
“Hello, welcome to the Pokémon Center. How may I assist you?”
“Good day, Nurse Joy,” Xia You replied politely. “Please help me register for Indigo League qualification.”
“Certainly, I understand.” Nurse Joy gestured toward a nearby computer. “Please scan your Pokédex here.”
Nodding, Xia You retrieved his Pokédex from the inside of his jacket and placed it on the computer. The screen instantly displayed his details, and a synthesized male voice issued from the device.
“Xia You, from Asaka Town in the Kalos region, has completed Indigo League registration. Current badge count: 0. Wishing you success in battle.”
“Kalos region?” Nurse Joy looked at Xia You with surprise. “That’s truly far away.”
“Yes,” Xia You recalled briefly, then said with a double meaning, “It wasn’t easy to reach this land.”
Just then, a plump Chansey waddled over, carrying a box adorned with the Indigo League emblem, stopping before Xia You.
Nurse Joy gestured welcomingly and smiled. “For trainers who complete registration, we provide a badge collection case. Please accept it.”
Xia You took the box, thanked Nurse Joy, and asked, “By the way, my Pokédex still contains data from the Kalos region. Is it possible to upgrade it to a Kanto Pokédex?”
“I’m sorry…” Nurse Joy shook her head. “We can’t modify Pokédexes here. If you wish to upgrade, you could visit Sakura Laboratory in this city, or Professor Oak’s lab in Pallet Town. I’m sure either professor would be glad to assist.”
