Su Bai watched Pearl train diligently and felt that she too must push herself harder. Returning to her room, she sat on the edge of her bed and began planning her next steps.
“Pearl is striving to grow stronger; I can’t fall behind. Since my profession is a Beast Tamer, I should capture and tame more beast companions.”
“Hmm, tomorrow I’ll head into the Misty Forest to fight monsters and level up, or perhaps tame a silkworm-type creature to diversify my pets. That way, I’ll have more options when facing threats,” Su Bai muttered to herself.
She knew the Misty Forest was fraught with danger but was an excellent place to improve one’s strength. Taming monsters there would not only bolster her combat power but also provide greater tactical choices in critical moments.
The next morning, Su Bai woke up early. She quickly packed her gear and checked her backpack: daggers, rope, rations... everything was ready. Sitting at the table, she hastily finished her breakfast while mentally mapping out the route to the Misty Forest.
“The food supply is still insufficient. I must solve the issues of food and water, or I’ll have to evacuate Linghai City,” she frowned anxiously.
Though Linghai City was relatively safe for now, most residents had fled, and resources were dwindling—especially food and water. Without a quick solution, she and Pearl might be forced to leave for the safety zones the government mentioned.
As Su Bai pondered these worries, an unexpected rustling came from the shelf where she stored supplies.
“Huh?”
Her nerves instantly heightened. She stood up swiftly, eyes alert, and cautiously approached the source of the noise.
“What’s going on?” Her heart raced as she gripped her dagger, ready to strike if danger arose. But as she neared, she froze.
A sleek black cat was rummaging through her supplies, clutching one of her precious Mai Mai Xiang-brand ham sausages in its mouth.
That sausage was one of the few foods she liked—its roasted aroma was irresistible. She usually saved it carefully, yet today, it was being stolen by a little thief cat.
“Ah, my ham sausage!” Su Bai couldn’t help but shout.
She stared at the black cat, trying to shoo it away.
But her voice caught the cat’s attention. When it looked up, Su Bai was startled by what she saw.
One of the black cat’s eyes was slashed across by a deep, jagged scar, giving it a fierce and menacing look.
Its lone eye was icy and sharp, as if it had survived countless life-or-death battles, radiating an unyielding authority.

Su Bai had never seen a cat like this before. Its presence carried a mysterious power that made one hesitate to approach.
The black cat seemed indifferent to Su Bai’s reaction and utterly dismissive of the dagger in her hand—almost mocking.
Indeed, Su Bai truly saw a hint of mockery in the cat’s eye.
Su Bai: ??
She shouted, “Give me back my ham sausage!”
Then lunged to grab the cat, but to her surprise, the feline vanished in a flash atop the shelves.
Su Bai was stunned by the cat’s sudden disappearance.
“What is this? A mutated animal?”
Thanks to Pearl’s existence, Su Bai quickly realized this black cat also possessed special abilities.
The cat remained calm, still clutching the ham sausage, then gracefully leapt down from another spot on the shelf before vanishing from the room entirely.
Su Bai stood still, her mind unsettled.
Just as the cat was disappearing, Su Bai’s gaze sharpened. She swiftly activated her Identification Eye skill.
A faint silver glow appeared in her pupils as her vision locked onto the black cat, and a clear string of data immediately surfaced in her mind:
[Monster: Thief Cat]
Level: 5
Talents:
1. Divine Theft: Can steal a precious entity from an opponent—be it an item, ability, or even memories.
2. Thief Space: Possesses a small independent space to store stolen goods; capacity expands with level.
Skills:
1. Sharp Claws: Attacks using razor-sharp claws capable of easily tearing through ordinary armor, dealing high damage.
2. Blink: Can instantly teleport a short distance to evade attacks or quickly exit the battlefield.
Seeing this information, Su Bai’s breath caught, waves of turmoil stirring within her.
Her mind replayed the Identification Eye’s feedback.
“A Thief Cat? Level 5, with two talents? This guy’s strong!” she murmured in disbelief.
She instinctively clenched her fists, feeling a mix of nervousness and excitement.

“No wonder it looked at me with such disdain and mockery,” she thought.
What surprised Su Bai even more was that this Thief Cat not only had a high level but also boasted two talents and two skills.
The number of talents and skills usually determined a monster’s potential and combat ceiling, and this black cat’s combination was nearly perfect.
The Divine Theft talent allowed it to steal precious things in battle—whether weapons, gear, or abilities—turning the tide at crucial moments.
Thief Space made it a mobile storage unit, able to store and retrieve stolen items at will.
As for its skills, Sharp Claws and Blink granted it powerful melee capabilities and high mobility, enabling it to attack or defend with almost no weaknesses.
“No wonder it wore that mocking look. It truly has the means,” Su Bai said with a wry smile, feeling both helpless and impressed.
Recalling the black cat stealing her ham sausage earlier, she suddenly realized the theft might have been a casual gesture.
If it truly intended harm, she might not have had a chance to resist at all.
But soon, Su Bai snapped back to her senses.
“I can try to tame this Thief Cat! Ah, I was only thinking about my ham sausage just now!”
She felt a pang of regret—her snack had distracted her.
“If I can recruit this Thief Cat, with such talents and skills, my chances of survival will improve greatly.”
Especially with Thief Space acting as a portable storage.
Such a golden opportunity had slipped through her fingers.
Su Bai could only lament helplessly.
“But if it came once, it will come again.”
With that thought, she glanced at the remaining ham sausages in her supplies.
“You can’t catch a wolf without sacrificing a lamb. Ham sausages, forgive me for not indulging you just yet.”
Ham Sausages: ??
That little episode soon ended, but Su Bai did not forget her leveling plan. She packed up and headed toward the Misty Forest once more.
