Chapter 16: Dealing Drugs to an Anti-Narcotics Officer? Little Brother, You’re Really Asking for Trouble!

Lu Xingzhou lowered his head to look at the unremarkable cigarette pack his boss had slapped onto the table. He blinked and then questioned the boss.
“Is this pack made of gold, or is the tobacco made of gold? Even if it’s really strong, selling it for 3,000 is just absurd!”
The boss smiled coldly. “Where do you see strong cigarettes on the market nowadays? They’re all cheap knockoffs. What I have here is top-quality stuff. Once this chance is gone, there won’t be another. If you don’t believe me, ask the person who introduced you. My cigarettes are genuine, no deception to anyone.”
Lu Xingzhou pondered for a moment. “Forget it, I won’t get the strong ones. Just give me a pack of regular Golden Leaf.”
The boss was not angry. He took a box of Golden Leaf from the shelf. “20!”
Lu Xingzhou scanned the code to pay. The boss curled the corner of his mouth into a conspiratorial smile. “Young man, I believe you’ll come back because that one is really strong!”
Lu Xingzhou frowned, thinking, ‘Only a fool would spend 3,000 on a pack of strong cigarettes.’
He tore open the packaging, lit one for himself, and started to leave.
However, before he could step out the door, he stopped.
‘I’m no longer a retired athlete working three jobs a day. There’s over ten million in my account. Can’t I afford to indulge a little?’
Today, he decided to see what this “strong” cigarette was all about.
Turning back, Lu Xingzhou said, “Boss, I’ll take that pack of strong ones!”
The boss curled his lips and nodded toward the table. “I knew you wouldn’t leave so easily. The cigarettes are on the table. Help yourself.”
Lu Xingzhou paid another 3,000 and stuffed the pack into his pocket.
About ten minutes later, Lu Xingzhou arrived at the Zongyong Temple police station. You Gaojie was eating a late-night snack in the reporting hall.
Seeing Lu Xingzhou enter, You Gaojie’s eyes lit up, and he hurried to stand. “Mr. Lu, coming to the station so late—did you encounter another case?”
Lu Xingzhou gave him a puzzled look. ‘Do I really look like someone who runs into cases so often?’
He handed You Gaojie a Golden Leaf cigarette and lit one for himself.
Spreading his hands, he said, “No cases at all. Officer You, it’s late, and I was thinking of booking a hotel nearby, but it’s too expensive. Can I crash here in the reporting hall for the night?”
You Gaojie took a drag and said, “No problem. Sleeping in the hall isn’t comfortable. You can use one of the cubicles. There’s a folding bed you can use temporarily…”
Before he finished, Lu Xingzhou suddenly dropped the cigarette butt on the floor, stomped it out, and dashed away.
“Mr. Lu?”
At that moment, a cold female voice rang out from a group of officers walking down the corridor: “Stop right there!”
Lu Xingzhou nearly ran out of the hall but had to stop, turning around with a smile more pitiful than tears.
If he had known it was Lu Jiangying from the Zongyong Temple station, he definitely would have gone home.
Lu Jiangying approached expressionlessly and looked up at Lu Xingzhou. “Open your mouth.”

Lu Xingzhou shook his head.
Without wasting words, Lu Jiangying reached out, grabbed Lu Xingzhou’s chin, and pinched. A puff of white smoke sprayed Lu Jiangying’s face.
Stammering, Lu Xingzhou said, “Th-that… sister, what are you doing here…”
Lu Jiangying ignored his words and stretched out her hand. “Hand over the stuff!”
Lu Xingzhou pulled out the cigarettes and lighter from his pocket and gave them to her. “Sis, I’m already retired. Smoking a bit isn’t a big deal.”
Lu Jiangying still held out her hands. “Anything else?”
Lu Xingzhou touched the right pocket where the pack of strong cigarettes was. He hadn’t even taken a puff, so there was no way he’d hand it over so easily.
He pulled out the pack. “This one’s to share around, I’m not smoking it, really.”
As he spoke, Lu Xingzhou tore open the plastic wrapping and started handing out cigarettes to those in the reporting hall one by one. When his back was turned to Lu Jiangying, he secretly slipped two sticks into his belt.
After distributing them all, Lu Xingzhou balled up the empty pack and tossed it into the trash. “Sis, all done. Really, there’s nothing left.”
Lu Jiangying glanced around, noting the number of people Lu Xingzhou had given cigarettes to. She raised an eyebrow and slapped him hard on the back. “Do you really think I’m a fool?”
Song Xiangchen, captain of the narcotics unit, weighed the cigarette Lu Xingzhou handed him and frowned at the unusual weight. Habitually, he broke open the cigarette butt.
“Snap!”
A tiny packet, no bigger than a soybean, filled with white powder fell out.
Song Xiangchen’s blood ran cold. He shouted loudly, “Everyone, put down the cigarettes!”
The other officers’ gazes shifted from the lively scene between the Lu siblings to Song Xiangchen.
“An He, tweezers, quick test kit!”
Bai Anhe hurried back to the makeshift lab, grabbed the toolbox, and brought it to the reporting hall. He handed the test kit and tweezers to Song Xiangchen.
Song Xiangchen picked up the white balls wrapped in plastic from the floor with the tweezers, placed them in the test kit, and crushed the packaging.
Instantly, the reagent in the pink test kit turned a deep blue.
You Gaojie stared at the half-smoked cigarette in his hand, petrified. There was a soft ‘thud’ as the cigarette dropped to the floor.
The other officers all looked toward Lu Xingzhou in horror.
Handing out drugs to narcotics officers, kid, you’re really asking for it!
Lu Jiangying spun around, her face flushed red. Lu Xingzhou felt a boiling heat rising in the room, tears glistening in his eyes as she punched him hard in the chest.
“Bastard!”
“Thud!”
Lu Xingzhou didn’t react in time and took the blow squarely.
He quickly stepped back, his mind racing to piece everything together.

No wonder they said these cigarettes were strong and sold for 3,000 a pack—it turns out they were hiding drugs inside!
Lu Xingzhou hurriedly pulled out the two cigarettes he had secretly kept from his belt.
“Sis! Wait! Listen to me! The pack of Golden Leaf I smoked was 20! Normal cigarettes from the market.
This pack—the strong one—someone gave it to me, so I bought it. 3,000 a pack!
I was just curious why it was so expensive, so I bought it!
I haven’t even dared to smoke a single one!
I even opened the packaging right in front of you! Really! Honestly!”
Lu Jiangying said nothing, clenching her fists tightly, her eyes red as she glared fiercely at Lu Xingzhou.
Song Xiangchen patted Lu Jiangying’s shoulder. “Little Lu, don’t worry. With my fifteen years as a narcotics officer, I can guarantee this guy has never touched drugs.”
Lu Jiangying trusted the kid she had raised.
She was only afraid Lu Xingzhou might have been tricked.
Otherwise, distributing drugs to narcotics officers? That’s just asking to get caught.
Still, he deserved a beating!
Why is he always so reckless!
After comforting Lu Jiangying, Song Xiangchen looked at Lu Xingzhou, who had raised both hands and was pressed against the wall.
“Tell us, where did you buy these cigarettes? What does the seller look like?”
Lu Xingzhou poured out all the information he knew, like spilling beans.
“From the ‘Mexican Flavor’ beverage shop by the lakeside.”
“The boss is about 175 cm tall.”
“Medium build, in his thirties or forties.”
“Thinning hair and has a small mustache.”
“Right hand disabled, missing the thumb!”
“Wears a black T-shirt, similar to mine, with ‘Young people, let’s get hyped’ written on it.”
“The 3,000-yuan cigarettes were kept under the counter. He took them out from below the counter. The regular cigarettes were on the shelf. That’s all I know!”
