Chapter Three: The Worthless One

Excellent! At this rate, I’ll soon become a madman with zero sanity points.
[Sanity -1, enter containment scenario]
Without hesitation, Fu Qian chose to restart.
Repeated failures only fueled his determination.
That bastard who ambushed me—I must find it.
“Awake now?”
The familiar voice of the old man reached his ears.
Hmm.
Gritting his teeth to reason with himself, Fu Qian got out of bed and crept toward the door, squinting to look outside.
In the yard, there was something new—a human torso with limbs, an exaggeratedly long neck, and a head covered in hair.
At this moment, this aberrant creature stared up at the starry sky with two hollow eye sockets, motionless.
That grotesque posture—could it be the legendary werewolf that transforms under the full moon?
The problem was, except for the head, its body was completely bare.
Its human facial features were faintly visible, making it look more like a bearded zombie.
Most striking were the torn strips of cloth hanging from its body.
This creature was once a person, but here it discovered its wild nature, returning to the embrace of nature?
Fu Qian made an irresponsible guess.
Judging by its position, he must have walked right into its face earlier—no wonder he was sent flying with a slap.
That oversized, deformed claw must be the weapon that defeated him.
As for why it was invisible before but now visible, Fu Qian felt he had already guessed the reason.
The key lay in that “Inspiration +1” effect, which allowed him to perceive more.
“The moon’s about to set.”
The old man urged again from behind.
Without turning his head, Fu Qian crouched low, slipping into the werewolf’s blind spot, and quietly slipped out.
The werewolf remained still, still gazing at the stars, showing no reaction to Fu Qian’s movement.
He exhaled quietly, carefully surveying his surroundings and soon found an escape route—a heavy stone double door.
The problem was, the door looked incredibly heavy, and it was only a few meters from the werewolf.
Could this be any more humiliating? Might as well have it ride on its back!
Despite his complaints, Fu Qian didn’t let anger cloud his judgement; instead, he analyzed the situation seriously.
No matter the difficulty, remain calm, analyze, respond steadily, and finally, elegantly sever the boss’s head.
That’s what a real man does!
For now, he had two choices:
One, play hide and seek with the werewolf here, hoping its senses like sight and smell were poor—if it didn’t move, neither would he, just wait out the time.
After all, survival for one hour was the condition to clear containment.
Two, risk a claw through the chest to open that seemingly ton-heavy door and run into the unknown dangers beyond.
Fu Qian decisively decided to try the first option first.

As everyone knows, the first rule in movies to survive long is: don’t do anything stupid unless necessary.
Fu Qian looked at the indicator in the upper left corner of his vision—he had successfully survived 15 minutes this time.
Carefully making no sound, he moved slowly, finally turning his back to the werewolf and hiding behind a tree.
16, 17... 20!
At the twentieth minute, the werewolf howled suddenly and moved.
It abandoned its strange pose, looking wildly agitated.
It began to leap around the yard at an unbelievable speed, almost instantly spotting Fu Qian behind the tree.
Damn!
With nowhere to dodge, Fu Qian was sent flying again by a single claw.
[Containment failed, survival time: 20 minutes]
[Evaluation: Useless person. The most foolish thing is to expect a madman to follow the rules.]
[Reward: None]
[Current Sanity: 15]
So hiding didn’t work, huh?
Fu Qian sighed, deeply aware of the malice of this place.
No wonder they assigned a one-hour survival task.
This werewolf apparently starts going berserk at 20 minutes; hiding in the yard until the end is impossible.
If he retreats, there’s the killing god old man inside the house.
Now it seemed the only way was to open the stone door and escape.
But how to do that without being noticed? And is this thing even movable by a human?
Entering the containment scenario again, Fu Qian looked at the heavy stone door with a face full of grief.
No matter what, he had to try.
He quietly picked up a stone from the ground and threw it into the distance.
The stone hadn’t even landed when a black flash streaked by.
The werewolf, gazing at the stars, suddenly sprang up at the sound of the wind.
It leapt several meters instantly and slapped the stone flying.
Before Fu Qian could curse, the werewolf kicked off the ground, changed direction, leapt halfway across the yard again, and crashed headfirst into Fu Qian’s arms.
Fu Qian’s plan to misdirect had collapsed immediately.
[Containment failed, survival time: 10 minutes]

...What kind of precious treasure is this?
Try again!
[Sanity -1, enter containment scenario]
Reason with yourself, get up, go out, hide.
Watching the werewolf posing in the yard.

Fu Qian seriously began considering resignation.
From what he could see, this place gave no one a chance—surviving an hour was simply impossible!
Another failure would leave him with only 13 sanity points.
He was one step closer to becoming a fool.
The werewolf obviously had excellent hearing; every rustle or breeze would alert it.
But if he didn’t open the door, when the time ended and it stood up, it would certainly be the end.
He glanced back at the cottage.
The old man was holding a gleaming scythe, watching him like a hawk.
Fu Qian’s heart skipped a beat.
What had the old man just said?
He told him to come out and watch the moon.
But after staring at the moon for so long, it didn’t seem to change at all!
Could it be that he was watching it the wrong way?
Since childhood, Fu Qian was known for his extraordinary divergent thinking—even hailed as a madman with broad thinking.
Observing the werewolf in the yard, an idea struck him.
He found a spot, reached out his hand, looked up, and imitated the werewolf’s posture, gazing affectionately at the moon.
No reaction?
Fu Qian wasn’t one to give up easily.
One minute, two minutes...
Just as the werewolf began to stir and was about to stand and roam again, something changed.
That seemingly incredibly heavy stone door silently opened from outside inward.
You can do that?
Though his guess was confirmed, Fu Qian felt no joy.
This place was very strange! Who knew what else awaited him beyond.
But the path was now open, so Fu Qian quickly withdrew his stance.
Controlling every sound, staying within the werewolf’s line of sight, he crept step by step to the door.
Ready.
He slipped out, and his eyes were immediately flooded with light.
Fu Qian finally understood why this place was called the Full Moon Garden.
On the rolling land, countless small flowers with white petals and yellow buds swayed gently in the breeze.
Each petal mirrored like a tiny mirror, reflecting the bright moonlight like a flowing river of mercury.
Luckily, at least for now, no other creatures had been spotted.
Fu Qian breathed out a sigh of relief.
The next moment, he drew it back again.
